EQUIS, Beijing’s newest and most glamorous social lounge opens today with a star-studded fashion soiree, where the elite of the city are gathering to mark the unveiling of the capital’s most highly anticipated new venue.

Designed as a luxurious, contemporary reinterpretation of the ancient tea houses and imperial courts that have formed the heart of Beijing society for thousands of years, EQUIS aims to set new standards of sophistication and style for the capital’s burgeoning social scene.

The exclusive new venue, which is ideally situated adjacent to the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel Beijing, comprises five distinct but connected outlets spread over more than 3,600 square metres (38,750 square feet), in a spacious yet intimate layout that evokes Beijing’s famed hutongs of years past.

In Spanish, EQUIS means “X” and implies the very centre of everything. The pinnacle of the capital’s rise to prominence as a global lifestyle hub, EQUIS combines international influences with the highest service and entertainment standards to create the perfect setting for memorable celebrations, fine dining and drinking in style.

“We are excited to present EQUIS to the city of Beijing,” said Tehau Lejeune, Club Director, EQUIS. “Our goal was to create an exciting, high quality new venue for the social elite and to break new ground in sophisticated urban lifestyle. We believe we have created a place that is truly fresh, innovative and best-in-class for nightlife, dining and entertainment in the capital.”

EQUIS’ striking interiors pays homage to ancient, timeless Beijing traditions while also celebrating the best of modern China and the world, with dramatic spaces and eclectic vibes created through the carefully selected materials including woven metal, antique timber, and the distinct use of glass cubes and mirrors, fireplaces, pieces of genuine Chinese porcelain, antique Chinese bricks and roof tiles. Contemporary art installations further create an atmosphere designed to awe and inspire through a multi-sensory experience.

A beautiful assembly of discrete enclaves, the venue features five unique experiences. THE LOUNGE is the high-energy, buzzing heart of the venue where live music and performances are the highlight, and colourful craft cocktails, premium spirits, table service and delicious small plates entice guests. THE CELLAR on the east corner of EQUIS comes complete with a central fireplace and a dramatic seafood counter. Guests will find the perfect setting to savour the finest wines and champagnes paired with fresh belon oysters, fruits de mer and personalised services led by the Head Sommelier.

On the southwest corner of EQUIS is THE LIBRARY, a quiet haven for handcrafted cocktails, intimate evenings and a spacious private terrace with hand-rolled Cuban cigars and rare, artisanal spirits. THE COURTYARD features a stunning, open-air garden that evokes the central courtyards of ancient hutongs that were once home to Beijing’s wealthiest families. Bamboo and manicured foliage paired with beautiful stone walls and comfortable terrace seating make this the best backdrop for a selection of local craft beers, wines, and champagnes served on a warm Beijing summer night.

Accessible only to EQUIS members, THE IMPERIAL ROOM is the height of the EQUIS experience and a true "home away from home" for the lucky few, complete with a private and ultra-luxurious lounge, a dedicated outdoor terrace and private party rooms for entertaining and other hosting. The Imperial Room is home to an extensive collection of rare and special single malt whiskies, fine cognacs, and other spirits including offerings not available anywhere else in China.

Dining at EQUIS is a showcase of extraordinary culinary talent, balancing the best of Beijing and Chinese cuisine with a selection of international offerings. In each of the five unique settings, guests can enjoy food that is perfectly paired to their drinks and the moment, from a selection of fresh seafood including farmed beluga caviar, French oysters, Boston lobster, Japanese ahi tuna, or a selection of Spanish Iberico ham, cured Atlantic salmon, Beijing-style delicacies, fondue and chocolate.

Equally, the fine drinks at EQUIS are a creative partnership between the award-winning Proof & Company – the team behind a number of the World’s 50 Best Bars, including Asia’s Best Bar in 2015 and 2016. Guests can expect meticulously handcrafted cocktails and artfully curated spirits, wines and beers that celebrate fine drinking in the historic city of Beijing.

The main attraction at EQUIS for socialites and partygoers will be the carefully curated music and entertainment program. Generally divided into two phases, dinner will feature a more refined, calm atmosphere, while evenings will transition into an exciting, high-energy audio-visual experience with resident DJs and first-class performances.

In keeping with their commitment to providing the highest level of service standards, EQUIS is led by a diverse and artistic team of talented professionals from around the world, hailing from as far afield as the UK and Italy, and also places closer to home including Hong Kong and China.

The EQUIS private membership program brings together influential creative minds, tastemakers, social personalities and celebrities. EQUIS offers a number of exclusive membership programs on a tiered system that include privileges at the adjacent Four Seasons Hotel Beijing, as well as an array of enviable benefits and services such as a dedicated butler concierge service, access to the private spaces at EQUIS, and much more.
