Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong Celebrates the Merry Month of March as Art and Rugby Sevens Take Centre Stage in the City

February 26, 2015,
Hong Kong, China

Drawing on the city's vibrant energy and East-meets-West heritage, in recent years Hong Kong has cultivated a strong local art scene while acting as a portal to the dynamic Asian art world. With three major art fairs - Art Basel, M+ and Art Central - happening simultaneously in the month of March 2015, Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong has fully embraced the city's creative spirit.  Art aficionados are welcome to express and explore their esthetic sensibilities at the Hotel with a variety of sophisticated happenings.

On the heels of Art Basel, the city hosts the fast and furious Rugby Sevens, attracting sports fanatics from around the world. The Hotel takes care of Sevens goers in every way, from pick-me-up beverages in the morning to replenishing spa treatments at the end of the day.

Art for Everyone

Sponsored by Art Central, the premium satellite art fair held at the Central Harbourfront, all Hotel staying guests will receive complimentary tickets to view and purchase contemporary art from established and emerging artists. Suite staying guests are entitled to VIP passes; one card admits two people to the preview as well as days open to public. VIP preview is on Friday, March 13 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday, March 14 from 10:00 to 11:00 am; general admission is March 14-16 beginning at 11:00 am.

The Hotel also has limited quantities of complimentary tickets for hotel guests who wish to attend Art Basel. Tickets admit guests to the public viewing on Monday, March 16 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, March 17 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm.

Art lovers do not need to travel far for a fix. Since its inception, the Hotel has housed a collection of contemporary artwork, subtly splashing colour and style into the life of jet setters.  Hanging proudly at the Front Desk is an oil canvas created by French artist Jean Miotte. His art works are influenced by jazz music and ballet as expressed through gestural brushstrokes and broad swaths of colour. Moving up to the Executive Floor stands a partial sphere sculpture made of 160 identical cogs, a masterpiece by Gary Baynes, a sheet metal engineer by trade and a sculptor by nature.

Partnering with Cat Street Gallery, the sixth floor podium outside Caprice has been transformed into a pop-up art exhibition for Japanese Artist Yuki Aruga, featuring seven pieces of her work from the inaugural Hong Kong solo exhibition from now until end of May. Aruga’s painting and sculptures are a translation of the temporal and perpetual cycles present in flora and fauna, as well as an exploration of fragility, density and form of the body.

Launching with the start of Art Basel, guests will be able to explore the signature pieces at the Hotel and 6th Floor pop-up gallery with a self-guided Four Seasons Walking Art Tour. Art Tour maps are available at the Front Desk and concierge. Art is everywhere at Four Seasons if one explores.

Celebrating the art frenzy, Pastry Chef Ringo Chan has crafted a unique in-room amenity for guests staying on the night of March 15. At turn down guests will be delighted to find chocolates imprinted with patterns of key art pieces in the Hotel.

For art lovers in need of refreshment, Blue Bar has created an inspired cocktail: the Art Jamming. Slightly sweet and a little tart, this refreshing concoction consists of muddled thyme, Alain Milliat’s wild blueberry jam, Absolut vodka, sauvignon blanc, lemon juice and prosecco. This cocktail masterpiece will be “on-view” for a limited time only, from March 6 to 20.

Look Fashionable, Feel Refreshed

With expansive views of Victoria Harbour, subtly luxurious interiors designed by leading architect Richard Farnell, sought after nail polishes, unique therapeutic treatments, not to mention a beverage of choice, the Nail Bar is redefining the art of beauty maintenance. The newly opened Nail Bar takes care of guests on all occasions.  For the artistic minded, skilled nail technicians are expert in creating personalised designs on fingers and toes.  Make art wearable with a Mondrian-inspired grid on one finger or a whole set of nails decorated in Matisse-like "cut-outs." Nail art is priced at HKD 150 per finger on weekends and HKD 110 on weekdays (Monday to Thursday).

Crowd cheering and partying at the Hong Kong Stadium can be fun and exhilarating; the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is the perfect antidote to the aftermath. The Botanical Cure is a three hour treatment that includes a wrap, scrub and massage sure to melt away fatigue and restore the energy.
