Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina Presents Art Walk: A Gallery Exhibition and Reception Featuring Local Artists

On Friday May 19, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina presents Art Walk, an exhibition gallery and reception featuring leading Hawaii artists Steven Kean, Kris Goto, Andrew McHowell and Jay Grenier. 

Inspired by Oahu’s thriving and diverse art scene, Art Walk showcases unique works of art from emerging and established artists, ranging from paintings and photography to printmaking and illustrations. Art Walk is complimentary and open to the public.

Featured on May 19 are:

• Steven Kean: Residing on the North Shore of Oahu since 2008, Pennsylvania native Steven Kean is an artist working primarily in the woodcut method of relief printmaking. Woodcut is a technique where the artist carves into a block of wood, leaving raised areas to receive ink. The inked block is then printed on paper. 
• Kris Goto: Kris Goto’s early fascination with manga is inspired by the works of artists Yuu Watase, Ai Yazawa and Osamu Tezuka.  Born and raised in the countryside of Japan, Goto moved to Hong Kong at the age of nine and spent two years of high school in New Zealand where she discovered a world inspired by the art of Maori tattoos and the imaginative and sometimes eerie works of Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman.  She moved to Hawaii in 2006.
• Andrew McHowell: Photographer Andrew McHowell’s objective is to compose and capture the most divine photographs of Hawaii. After Aina Imagery’s successful public debut in 2009, Andrew has been busy with consignment work in galleries and hotels throughout Waikiki.  In 2011, Aina Imagery opened its doors to its first gallery located in Hawaii Kai, minutes from iconic spots such as Haunama Bay, Sandy Beach and Koko Crater.  In 2014, Andrew published his book New Landscapes featuring more than 70 images from extraordinary locales.
• Jay Grenier Water photographer Jay Grenier embraces the ocean as a healthy escape from the surrounding commotion of life, and finds there a passion that stirs him to wake before the sun to go and dodge waves in an ongoing effort to capture and freeze a pure showing of true power and untouched beauty - one that is completely out of our control.

“Art Walk is a showcase for the myriad forms of creativity and artistic expression that Oahu inspires,” says Four Seasons General Manager Sanjiv Hulugalle. “It’s an exuberance of expression that invites guests, artists and the community to interact and share the mana of the island.”

As guests and community mingle with the artists, Four Seasons chefs Ray German (Fish House), Ryo Takatsuka (Noe) and Jobbie Domenden (La Hiki Kitchen) serve up pupus from the Resort’s signature restaurants to accompany passed champagne. Parking is validated for attending guests.

Art Walk is a monthly adjunct to #FSWayfinders, a program that invites guests and community to cultivate, create and curate with Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina in an ongoing weekly series featuring art, culture, history and in-depth workshops.

“Oahu’s western coastline is home to revered cultural storytellers, artisans, crafters and some of Hawaii’s most fascinating living legends,” Hulugalle adds. “From watermen to kupuna, artisans to designers, these kama`aina are the breath of life to Hawaii."

#FSWayfinders invites guests to discover first-hand a myriad of new experiences relating to Hawaii and the Pacific, weaving together traditions of the past with an occasional modern spin. Workshop opportunities include bamboo wood carving, haku lei making, lauhala weaving, ancient healing practices and sarong dying, to name a few.
