MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC came together on March 6, 2017 for a celebratory luncheon to honour a longstanding fundraising partnership. During the lunch, Director of Public Relations & Communications Liliana Baldassari along with other Hotel staff members presented Medical Director of Cancer Services at The Washington Cancer Institute Christopher Gallagher, MD a check for USD 164,000 to benefit cancer research. The proceeds were raised at Four Seasons 2016 Drive Four the Cure Golf Classic and Race to Beat Cancer 5K.

“Four Seasons Washington is immensely proud to have forged such a strong fundraising partnership with MedStar Washington Hospital Center for 17 consecutive years,” says Hotel General Manager David Bernand. “Washington, DC has one of the highest rates of cancer mortality in the country, and many of our staff and guests have been personally impacted by the disease. This year, it is an honour to be able to donate the proceeds from our two annual fundraising events to the outstanding, cutting edge research at The Washington Cancer Institute.”

Dr. Gallagher presented Hotel staff members with a congratulatory plaque and shared that the funds raised at the 2016 Four Seasons Hotel Washington events will be used to bring innovative cancer research studies to patients seen at The Washington Cancer Institute.

“This year, funds will support the SAFE-HEART Trial, a pilot study on the cardiac safety of state-of–the-art targeted therapies given to patients with HER2 Positive Breast Cancer and Reduced Left Ventricular Function. MWHC is one of three hospitals doing this clinical trial in the US,” said Dr. Gallagher. “Funds will also support the PALINA Trial, a pilot study which gives state-of–the-art immunotherapy medicines to African American women with low white blood cell counts and metastatic breast cancer. We are tremendously appreciative for our ongoing relationship with Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC and the aide that they provide to help bring these life-saving therapies to patients of the local community.”

The golf tournament and race are close to the hearts of all Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC employees, and the USD 1.5 million fundraised since the partnership began are all thanks to the support of the Hotel’s generous donors and patrons.

This year’s 37th annual Race to Beat Cancer 5K will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC. For more information on this event and sponsor details, click here.
