Discover the Taste of Hampshire

February 9, 2017,
Hampshire, England

Every weekend throughout 2017, discover the taste of Hampshire at one of the county’s farmers’ markets, featuring an abundance of wonderful seasonal food and drink all grown, raised, reared or baked in Hampshire.

The farmers’ markets take place in picturesque villages and towns within an hour from Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, including in the historic town of Winchester, only 30 minutes from the Hotel, which holds one of the largest farmers’ markets in the UK, with up to 90 stalls. Other big markets include Petersfields’, Alton’s, Ringwood’s and Romsey’s, among many more.

The markets feature rustic stalls set outdoors, showcasing seasonal fruit, vegetables and organic meats from local farms, such as of Newlyn’s Farm, only a stone’s throw away from the Hotel. You can also expect to find artisan cheeses, such as Hampshire Cheeses’ deliciously creamy British camembert, which you can accompany with honey or seasonal preserves produced in the New Forest.

Cakes and bakes are also on offer, such as Good Stuff Cakes, made with wholemeal, low gluten flours and natural sweeteners. As well as food and drink, you can expect to find a range of gifts, crafts and home wares, such as home fragrances made with lavender grown in Lavender Fields, in the village of Selborne.

Cookery demonstrations and competitions regularly take place at the markets, making for an entertaining family day out in a vibrant environment. Hampshire’s farmers’ markets also feature in various events and festivals throughout the year, such as the Watercress Festival in May, the New Forest & Hampshire County show in July, or Applefest in October, which celebrates the county’s apple harvest.

Our Concierge Team can help with further information, recommendations and travel arrangements to the markets - please contact them on 01252 853123 or concierge.hampshire@fourseasons.com.

You don’t need to wander far however to try some of the best of Hampshire’s own produce. Remember to try our Sunday Farmers’ Market Buffet Lunch, on every Sunday from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Our chefs have put together a selection of the most delicious locally sourced food, including a salad and seafood station, traditional roast carvery, roasted vegetables and sides, a dessert and cheese station, and a kids’ station especially for little ones.
