A Moment in Time

While gently swinging next to each other and watching the sun set upon the Andaman Sea, your thoughts may wander back to a different time, when the Moguls ruled India and rocked on swings very similar to the ones outside Rhu Bar at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. Made of chengal, a hardwood from the forests of Malaya, the swings have seats that are deep and wide, perfect for two (or more) to cosy up together on a warm tropical night.

Personal Spa Retreat: The Bathroom

The bathrooms in the guest pavilions and villas of Four Seasons Resort Langkawi are like no other. Inspired by Turkish hamams (communal baths) in function, the bathrooms in some rooms are Moorish in style.

Entered through a spade-shaped opening, the space is walled in Spanish Amarillo marble, with a distinct yellow hue that is associated with Malaysian royalty. The sunken bath itself – big enough for two or even more people – is terrazzo, also in yellow tones. In other rooms, the bathroom opens onto a private garden with outdoor shower.

Knowing that guests may never want to leave their sanctuary, spa therapists will come and prepare a mandi bunga. It’s a traditional Malaysian ritual bath using fragrant flowers, coconut leaves, betel leaves, pandan leaves, lemongrass, cinnamon, nuts, kaffir lime and herbs and spices, which are poured over maidens (and other guests) in the bath.

Mandi bunga may be combined with massage and hair treatments, and there’s even a special Tutti Frutti bath with fruity bubbles for kids. Bath time may never be the same.
