For guests who wish to take their spa experience to greater heights and enjoy a complete healing mind and body journey, Four Seasons introduces Enchanted Reef – A Journey to Serenity. Developed exclusively for the Island Spa by A.W. Lake, this unique two-day package combines mind- and spirit-soothing techniques with nourishing body treatments using sea minerals and natural plant and fruit extracts.
The journey starts with Mind Healer, a series of treatments that begins with pranayama breath work, then continues with an exfoliating blue reef and lime body scrub followed by a seaweed and coconut wrap and an aromatic herbal steam, and concludes with a shower using water infused with essences of dry coconut, sage, rosemary and green tea. The blue reef powder used in the scrub is a natural exfoliant extracted from the blue coral sand found at the bottom of the clear, deep waters of the Indian Ocean. The blue sand contains high levels of sea minerals that are beneficial for the renewal and nourishment of skin cells.
Day two of the journey continues with Soul Soother, a four-step treatment session that begins with Tibetan singing bowls placed around the body and gently struck by the therapist, producing a deep vibration that resonates through the body to synchronise its natural rhythm. A deep full-body shantosha dhara massage using vanilla cocoa butter follows. The treatment continues with an Indian head massage and hair mask using virgin olive and coconut oils and basil and mint essential oils to gently nourish the scalp. The journey concludes with a guided trataka or flame meditation session, an ancient yogic technique that induces a state of calmness and tranquillity.
All ingredients used in the treatments at the Island Spa are natural, pure and chemical-free, and all products are sourced from prominent environmentally supportive suppliers – Ila, Sodashi and A.W. Lake. These spa brands use high-quality ingredients from around the globe, including pure botanical extracts, essential oils and organic ingredients that have been extensively researched, often based on the knowledge and wisdom of ancient philosophies and the traditional path to natural healing.
For example, one of Ila’s keystone ingredients in its range of body balms and face oil – rose otto oil – is distilled from Indian rose damascene, which grows in the foothills of the Himalayas. These petals are harvested by a single family that comes from many generations of rose farmers. Once gathered, the petals are distilled using a centuries-old method, ensuring complete depth and purity. This oil comprises the key ingredient of the oil used in the Ananda Facial, providing deep regeneration and nourishment to skin cells.
The special ILA Scrub, with its choice of two experiences – Energising and Detoxifying, or Blissful – helps eliminate toxins using a special blend of argan oil. This fragrant oil is derived from the nut of the argan tree, found only in Morocco, and processed through a millennia-old technique employed by the Berber people. It is renowned for its health-giving properties and is rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants. All scrubs conclude with a soothing neck and back massage.
A tranquil and verdant retreat, the Island Spa is just a minute’s ride away from the Resort by dhoni (native Maldivian boat). Staffed by a team of highly skilled therapists, its seven over-water treatment pavilions are designed for couples’ spa experiences, with separate bathing and treatment pavilions and a private garden courtyard with open-air shower. Below each of the massage tables is a rectangular viewing portal allowing for observation of marine life during treatments.
