Arriving in Serengeti in 2014, Martin Cody was familiar with remote locations, having just spent a period of almost four years in the secluded paradise of Maldives. "I love having the opportunity to live and work in some of the world's most incredible places. For so many years now, I have been blessed that my day to day takes place in locations that rank so highly on the bucket list of many - it's hard not to appreciate that."

Cody is General Manager at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, where he oversees all operations of the 77-room Lodge that has offered guests once-in-a-lifetime African wildlife and cultural experiences since December 2012. A day that starts with a coffee overlooking first light on the Serengeti Plains and ends by watching what is arguably one of the greatest sunset views in the world, is, for him, fairly hard to beat.

A true explorer at heart, Cody has been a member of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts teams in London, Hawaii, Langkawi and the Maldives since 2001. He brings unique insights from his global career and a warm, team-oriented approach to his role in the Serengeti, where he looks to develop what matters to him most: people.

"With this being the first safari lodge in Four Seasons, and our first property in Tanzania, it was exciting for me to see how we could provide wider career opportunities to local team members, as well as seeking out ways to expand our recruitment efforts in the community."

Since his arrival in the Serengeti, Cody has put in place a series of cross-exposure opportunities, where staff members from the Serengeti can benefit from working and living at another Four Seasons property for 12 months, with destinations to date including Seychelles and the Maldives. Another key initiative spear-headed by Cody is the launch of the Lodge's Discovery Centre Fund, which aims to support the community and environment of the Serengeti through guest donations.

With this community focus, the Lodge has worked to build a strong partnership with the Serengeti Tourism College (SETCO), where visits, trainings and long-term placements have evolved into full time employment at the Lodge for more than 15 students. "One of the things I love most about this industry is meeting people from all different backgrounds and cultures - each one with the potential to be a star of the future. To be part of that is something very special."
