Four Seasons Resort Seychelles
Petite Anse, Baie Lazare, Mahé, Seychelles

Introducing The Hilltop Spa at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles. Opening June 2009, the iconic Spa is inspired by Creole culture.

The Hilltop Spa at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates, is set to become one of the Indian Ocean’s most iconic retreats. Perched on the hilltop at the Resort’s highest point, the Spa comprises seven separate pavilions linked by timber sun decks. With bird’s-eye views across the sparkling Bay of Petite Anse, vast indoor and outdoor areas and charming rustic-chic design, the Spa epitomises the sense of natural beauty, tranquillity and seclusion found throughout the Resort.

Surrounded by tropical vegetation, including coconut, mango and cinnamon trees, the main glass-fronted pavilion spans two levels. Linked at the top to an extensive yoga pavilion, the lower level leads to five more pavilions, accommodating eight separate treatment rooms, including five doubles with private lounge areas, steam rooms, rain showers and outdoor tubs.

The pavilion’s floor-to-ceiling glass sides and teak wooden floors are complemented by interiors that draw heavily on Creole influences. Dominating colours are in line with the surrounding environment and include warm browns, gold, turquoise and greys. Both indoor and outdoor areas are adorned with local Creole artwork and custom-made furnishings, including contemporary driftwood tables and pebble-covered chairs.

With an uncompromising belief that only 100% chemical-free products will suffice, The Hilltop Spa’s menu has been created in partnership with the brands Sodashi – considered the purest range of products on the market – and ila to offer a bespoke range of treatments and rituals. True to ila’s philosophy, the essence of many treatments is the channelling flow of energy, with each therapist working consciously to deliver not just a treatment but also a healing experience.

“Our guests have become more sophisticated and aware of their own well-being, yet, at the same time, their needs remain relatively uncomplicated,” says Luisa Anderson, senior director of spas, Four Seasons Asia Pacific. “Some of our treatments are therefore very simple but, like the Kundalini back massage, have the ability to transport you to another place and have a profound healing effect.”

Four Seasons has highly qualified therapists from its spas in Bali, Maldives and Exuma who have undertaken intensive training from ila and Sodashi to carry out their treatments with care and expertise.

Many of the treatments incorporate island herbs and spices such as cinnamon, frangipani and lemongrass, combined in accordance with ancient recipes. Massages, body scrubs and wraps, facials, hydrotherapy baths and foot and hand treatments are offered in harmony with island traditions. Educational sessions and three-day spa rituals offer highly effective and restorative programmes for longer-stay guests.

The Spa’s signature treatments include the following:

  • Mahé massage, a massage that uses herbal poultices made from indigenous ingredients and combines European oil techniques with Asian pressure points
  • Shell serenity, where warm sea shells filled with sea minerals, dried sea kelp and algae are pressed along the muscles to release knots and tension, increase circulation and alleviate stress
  • Kundalini back massage, designed to increase vitality and spiritual enlightenment; this deeply healing treatment uses soothing and strengthening oils and the application of Himalayan salt and marigold poultices to the chakras

The Spa also includes a juice bar – serving herbal tonics, organic juices and homemade teas – and an extensive library of health and well-being literature, which can be enjoyed within private lounge areas or outdoors on extensive timber decks. In addition, guests can choose a number of skin-care, nail and waxing treatments from the dedicated salon, and purchase gifts and natural skin-care products from the thoughtfully stocked boutique.
