Rare Stones and Semi-Precious Gems
At first glance, Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village evokes the feeling of a fine English manor home, but a closer look soon reveals an intriguing splash of exotica. Rare stones and semi-precious gems are incorporated throughout the Hotel, often on a large scale.
In Onyx, a giant wall of the restaurant’s namesake variety of quartz is illuminated from behind, revealing a striking beauty rarely seen. In the lobby, the Concierge’s counter is onice smeraldo, a type of onyx characterised by swirling ribbons in shades of green; the stone itself was imported from Iran. Carnelian, a reddish stone used since Roman times to make signet rings and seals, is used on a much grander scale in large panels in the main parts of the Hotel.
In the atrium of California Health & Longevity Institute, as well as throughout the Hotel’s gardens, water-smoothed boulders from the River Kwai in Thailand are contemplative accents in a facility and landscape devoted to well-being.
