As the Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island, Mark James Syputa is responsible for the property’s stylish living spaces, including 206 rooms and suites, and 124 Four Seasons Private Residences Abu Dhabi. In this role, he also provides operational oversight to the front desk, concierge, guest services, housekeeping and spa and fitness teams.

After working at two Four Seasons hotels in the United States, Syputa pursued his passion to explore new places and cultures, and moved overseas in 2008 to open Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita as the Residences Manager. Shortly thereafter, he went on to serve as Regional Director of Residences, offering regional oversight for Four Seasons Private Residences in Seychelles, Marrakech and Sharm El Sheikh. In 2015, he moved to Saudi Arabia to take on his most recent role as Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh at Kingdom Centre.

An American national, Syputa believes that a well-defined sense of place makes Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi an irreplaceable property. “You cannot replicate this Hotel in another city, and make it work. Almost every design aspect has been carefully chosen to reflect some aspect of the character of the capital city. And, it is our responsibility to bring that same thoughtfulness to the guest experience at the Hotel, by incorporating the spirit and culture of our Emirati hosts,” he says.

Having spent his entire childhood in the American Midwest, Syputa’s personality is deeply shaped by the values of humility, friendliness, honesty, integrity and sincerity – qualities that have served him in good stead over the course of his journey with Four Seasons. “Anyone can learn the latest luxury trends or memorise the finest wine list, but you have to whole-heartedly embrace the Golden Rule – to treat others as you wish to be treated – to be successful with Four Seasons.”

Syputa graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree. “My education was important, and I feel strongly that it is essential in today’s global economy. However, my success comes from holding and living the quintessential Midwestern values I have grown up with, and not from anything that can be learned in a classroom,” he adds.
