“Even though I have been in the food and beverage industry for many years, it gives me great pleasure knowing that we are launching something as exciting and diverse as the First Nile Boat, which is the first culinary boat experience introduced by Four Seasons worldwide,” says Michele Garbuio.

Growing up in a small town in Italy has taught Michele to appreciate and enjoy all types of food, especially when it comes to authentic Italian cuisine; as rich and popular as it may be, nailing its technique and essence is not easy. He was enamoured with cooking Italian food, however he did enjoy experiencing food as much as cooking it!

“Over the years, I have learned to refine my palate and truly savour the moment whenever experiencing a new dish, indulging in new flavours or trying different cuisines, it’s kind of enjoying art if you really think about it,” says Michele. Food was not the only aspect that got Michele on board the hospitality industry, but everything about running a restaurant got him really curious.

“When it comes to handling a set of restaurants, I just want to be a part of everything, from assisting our head chefs in picking the local ingredients to monitoring waiters during service and helping them seat the guests, I just love being in the restaurant business.”

Not only did Michele focus on the food and handling the business aspect, he was a professional sommelier and received a diploma back in 2005. “I remember I used to go to the beautiful vineyards of Italy and indulge in some wine tasting with my friends. I really didn’t think of it as a profession as much as I did enjoy the fine aroma and the rich exquisite taste of the different wines.”

Having spent four years in the United Arab Emirates has taught Michele a lot when it comes to diverse cuisines, cultures and lifestyles. “I came to Cairo straight from Dubai, so I have a clear background of the rich Middle Eastern culture and an understanding of what people are looking for whenever they go out - a unique dining experience.”

“Moving to a new country and adapting does take some time, but my team welcomed me with open arms. It was and still is a whole team’s effort to turn this culinary boat into the top dining spot in Cairo.”

As much as it’s exciting for Michele to be responsible for the opening of the first culinary boat of Four Seasons, mostly it is very rewarding “An Italian who is in charge of opening a Brazilian grill and a pan Asian restaurant with a soon-to-open trendy cocktail lounge, Nairu Lounge and a Greek taverna next year, says something when it comes to diversity. Being exposed to different styles of cuisines has taught me to appreciate them all.”

“Having such diverse restaurants in one place with a unique ambience is certainly ad advantage that we love to share with our guests. The chefs at Xodó and Nairu have curated exotic flavoured menus that are not found anywhere else in Cairo.”
