When asked about returning to the great city of Cairo, Dimitri Zarikos' eyes light up and one can instantly see the love he has for the city.

“The warmth of its people, the big smiles and even bigger hearts, and the opportunity to build on greatness and reach new frontiers are just a few of the thoughts I had running across my mind when I was preparing to move back to Cairo,” says Dimitri.

In his role as General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, Dimitri is setting new standards for what is already a legendary hotel in Cairo and the region at large.  As a Regional Vice President, he is also in charge of the company’s other properties in Cairo First Residence, Alexandria at San Stefano, Sharm el Sheikh and Baku, Azerbaijan, along with projects that are currently under development in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

With an exceptional career path and a multitude of experiences to teach, Dimitri explains that hospitality has always been his passion, even when it was not his field of study. “My father was a chemical engineer and so I thought that it could be an interesting path for me. After a year of studies I decided this was not for me, too boring.  I am a man of action and excitement! I love to be with people, eating out, travelling and exploring new places and cultures - the essence of hospitality.”

During his first assignment in Cairo in 2000, Dimitri was an instrumental leader of the opening of the company’s very first hotel in the GCC and Middle East – Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence - a hotel that set a new benchmark in the region at the time. “It was exhilarating. Nobody thought we could do it and we did; the Hotel set the tone for Four Seasons development and dominance in the region in the years to follow.”

From New York and Cairo First Residence, to Provence and Toronto, Dimitri has put his passion for excellence and unfaltering pursuit of distinction to the best service of Four Seasons. “Four Seasons is the greatest hospitality company in the world. I am lucky that it has embraced me for the past twenty years and helped me achieve my dreams.”

With Dimitri’s attested-for, highly resilient and extremely efficient attitude, it comes as no surprise to expect that the teams he works with are a key element to him, where he always looks for “dedication, ambition, authenticity, loyalty, competence, drive, kindness, and a can do attitude.” He adds that the advice he gives his team is to never doubt their abilities. “Keep pushing to make yourself better, ask for help and advice from your manager, mentor, coach or trusted colleague. Take risks. If you do not fail, you do not learn and become better.”

As a huge fan of guitar-playing, Dimitri owns 11 guitars, which Vivian – his wife – confesses he cannot really play. But, Dimitri has faith that he will one day find the time in his immensely busy schedule to master playing. “Until then, going with Vivian to the movies, travelling to places near and far, exploring the cities we live in and spending time with my daughters when we are not apart are my favourite pastimes.”
