Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Organises Its 18th Run of Hope to Raise Funds for the Geneva League Against Cancer
Open to participants of all ages and abilities, from seasoned runners to families with young children, the Run of Hope brings the community together in support of the Geneva League Against Cancer. Starting from Île Rousseau, just steps from Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva, participants may choose between a 5-kilometre (3-mile) run, a 10-kilometre (6-mile) run, or a 5-kilometre (3-mile) family walk along Geneva's iconic Quai du Mont-Blanc and Quai Wilson. The first participants will set off at 9:30 am, before coming together later in the morning for a celebratory gathering. More than a sporting event, the Run of Hope reflects the Hotel's longstanding commitment to giving back to the local community and supporting those affected by cancer.
For many years, Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva has proudly supported the fight against cancer through its annual Run of Hope, organised in partnership with the Geneva League Against Cancer. Welcoming runners, walkers, children and families alike, the event offers a meaningful opportunity to share a moment of solidarity while contributing to an important cause.
The story of the Run of Hope finds its inspiration in the extraordinary journey of Terry Fox. In 1980, after losing a leg to bone cancer, the 22-year-old Canadian athlete embarked on an ambitious cross-country run to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. During a remarkable 143-day journey, he covered 5,374 kilometres (3,339 miles), averaging the equivalent of a marathon each day. Although his run was ultimately cut short when the disease spread to his lungs, Terry Fox's courage and determination inspired millions around the world. By the time of his passing less than a year later, he had raised nearly CAD 24 million, fulfilling his vision of collecting one dollar for every Canadian.
Deeply moved by Terry Fox's determination, Four Seasons Founder Isadore Sharp pledged his support to the cause and wrote to 999 Canadian executives, encouraging them to join the effort and take part in supporting cancer research. Following Terry Fox's passing, he helped establish the first Terry Fox Run in 1981. Today, more than 9,000 Terry Fox Runs are held annually around the world, each organised and led by volunteers who continue to honour his remarkable legacy.
Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva is honoured to carry this legacy forward. Since hosting its first Run of Hope in 2008, the Hotel has raised more than CHF 173,000 since 2015 alone. These funds directly support individuals living with cancer and their loved ones through the services provided by the Geneva League Against Cancer. From personalised guidance and emotional support to practical assistance throughout treatment, the organisation plays a vital role in helping patients navigate their journey. It also contributes to medical research and promotes prevention, education and health awareness across the region.
Held in tribute to Terry Fox, the Run of Hope is a non-competitive event open to all, celebrating resilience, compassion and community spirit.
