Four Seasons Resort Hualalai Hosts Hualalai Culinary Weekend Featuring James Beard Award Winning Chef Ken Forkish

Guest Chef Ken Forkish to host intimate cooking class, special culinary events, and artisan bread pop-up

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai announces the Hualalai Culinary Weekend hosted by acclaimed artisan bread and pizza master Chef Ken Forkish. From July 19 – 21, 2019, Chef Forkish will host a multitude of special events at the Five Star, Five Diamond beachfront resort. Each event will highlight a different aspect of Chef Forkish’s repertoire, from pizza to tartines and specialty breads.

Ken Forkish is the owner of Ken’s Artisan Bakery, Ken’s Artisan Pizza, Trifecta Tavern & Bakery, and Checkerboard Pizza in Portland, Oregon. He is also the author of the James Beard and International Association of Culinary Professionals award-winning book Flour Water Salt Yeast and The Elements of Pizza. Chef Forkish was a finalist for the national James Beard Award “Outstanding Pastry Chef” in 2013 and “Outstanding Baker” in 2017. He is recognised as one of the key contributors to Portland’s culinary evolution, and his restaurants have received numerous awards and accolades throughout the years.

The schedule of events for this three-day baking celebration will feature intimate cooking classes using a kiawe wood-fired pizza oven, a tartine pop-up, and exclusive dinners helmed by James-Beard award winning Chef Ken Forkish. Owner and winemaker Mark Tarlov of Rose & Arrow Estate, Alit Wines, and Chapter 24 Vineyards from Oregon will be expertly pairing each dish with a selection of wines from his cellar.

Join Chef Forkish at the bocce courts outside of Hualalai Trading Company for the opening evening where appetisers, pizza, wine and Italian cocktails will set the mood for this culinary weekend. USD 70++ per person.

Saturday, July 20, 2019

  • Tartine Pop-Up at the Surf Shack, 11:30 am – 2:30 pm

Enjoy the ocean front views of the Surf Shack, complimented by the smells of tartine, one of Chef's most acclaimed treats. Prices vary.

  • Barefoot Pizza Cooking Class, 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm

Learn to create everyone's favourite dish in an intimate setting with Chef Ken Forkish. The class will be held at Beach Tree's Barefoot table, the perfect place to immerse oneself in pizza paired with the perfect wines from Mark Tarlov. Limited to 14 people and USD 85++ per person.

  • Tasting Dinner at Beach Tree with Rose & Arrow Estate, Alit Wines, and Chapter 24 Wines, 5:30–8:30 pm

Join Chef Ken Forkish for a tasting dinner at Beach Tree, as he demonstrates using his pizza oven, featuring delicious wine parings from Rose & Arrow Estate, Alit Wines, and Chapter 24 Wines. Ala carte pricing.

  • Brunch at Beach Tree, 11:30 am – 3:00 pm

Join Chef Forkish at Beach Tree for a brunch to remember. Chef's custom created menu items will be featured on the Beach Tree menu. Chef will also be doing a cooking demo on the upper deck of the restaurant while guests can order an Aperol Spritz cocktail from the iconic bright orange cart. Ala carte pricing.

Ken Forkish’s Artisan Breads will be available throughout the weekend at Hualalai Trading Company.
