Four Seasons Hotel Osaka Redefines Modern Ryokan Living with Thoughtful Enhancements to GENSUI Floor
This summer, Four Seasons Hotel Osaka elevates it’s GENSUI modern ryokan floor with a selection of newly curated offerings – included with every GENSUI stay starting June 1, 2026. Anchoring the enhanced experience is SABO Lounge, a signature setting that reimagines the conventional executive lounge through a distinctly Japanese lens.
“Marking a considered evolution of GENSUI, our new enhancements invite guests to immerse more deeply in local customs, craftsmanship and stories while enjoying our team’s generous hospitality,” says Gianni Costa, General Manager.
Ryokan Living for Modern Travellers
Hidden away on the 28th floor of the Hotel, GENSUI presents a contemporary expression of the ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). With just 21 tatami accommodations and the SABO Lounge on this floor, guests can embrace the peaceful charm of ryokan living, surrounded by panoramic views and the luxury of Four Seasons.
GENSUI’s unique aesthetic is inspired by the twin concepts of gen (the hidden colours within deep black) and sui (meaning water, alluding to Osaka’s fabled rivers). Time-honoured Japanese traditions merge with modern design to create a journey of gentle contrasts, paired with crafted details such as calligraphy ceilings and carpets that echo ink paintings.
Dark-toned hallways lead into bright, spacious rooms and suites, featuring tatami flooring, futon bedding, sliding doors and washi-clad walls. The locally rooted accommodations are completed by ryokan-style amenities such as house slippers, yukata robes, and Japanese bath salts for soaking in the full-depth bathtub.
New Offerings at SABO Lounge
Available to guests staying on the 28th floor, SABO Lounge unveils the timeless spirit of Japan through memorable moments. Starting June 1, 2026, guests can discover two new experiences in this intimate setting:
- Japanese Afternoon Tea (2:30 pm to 4:40 pm). Highlighting seasonal flavours, this refined afternoon tea features traditional wagashi sweets, savoury delicacies and selected beverages, with three daily-changing selections available, allowing guests to enjoy a different experience each day, even during consecutive stays.
- Evening Aperitif (5:30 pm-7:30 pm). Leading the shift from sunset to night sky, this sociable ritual showcases curated sakes, crafted local spirits and regionally inspired savouries, with three daily-changing selections available.
SABO Lounge continues to welcome guests for a personalised check-in accompanied by Japanese tea and wagashi sweets, creating a calm, mindful rhythm from the moment of arrival. Mornings start with a bento-style breakfast here, featuring daily-changing selections. GENSUI guests also have the option of a full international breakfast buffet at Jardin, the hotel’s all-day bistro.
Tea Discoveries and Cultural Activities
Celebrating the country’s rich tea heritage, SABO Lounge invites guests to explore a collection of fine Japanese teas, curated by local tea masters, prepared with exacting precision, these brews range from single-origin teas to modern blends crafted for specific times of the day – whether as an energising morning cup or a serene bedtime ritual.
Visitors can also delve deeper into Japanese culture with daily activities, complimentary for all GENSUI guests. SABO staff host a hands-on exploration of arts, crafts and traditions perfected over generations, including origami, calligraphy and matcha whisking.
An Urban Ryokan in Osaka
Redefining ryokan living for the 21st century, GENSUI is shaped by a clear intention: to immerse travellers in the authentic traditions of Japan without compromising on comfort, ease and luxury. The new enhancements reveal a fuller expression of this promise, with an expanded range of signature experiences now included in each GENSUI stay.
