Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia Takes Meaningful Steps to Celebrate Earth Day and Sustainability Initiatives

As Earth Day approaches, Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia announces a series of initiatives that demonstrate its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. From the continued partnership with Bird Safe Philly to receiving the prestigious 4 Green Keys certification, the Hotel team is proud to contribute to both local and global efforts to protect the planet. This Earth Day, the property invites guests, employees, and the community to join in the mission to create a positive environmental impact.
Partnership with Bird Safe Philly for Lights Out Initiative
For the fifth consecutive year, Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia has pledged to participate in the Lights Out initiative, in partnership with Bird Safe Philly. This effort seeks to reduce bird-building collisions in the Philadelphia region by encouraging community members to turn off unnecessary lights and minimize lighting from 12:00 midnight until 6:00 am between April 1 and May 15, during the peak of spring migration. As a result of this ongoing partnership, the Comcast campus recorded a significant reduction in bird strikes in 2024, further proving the effectiveness of this initiative. By working together, the Hotel not only saves energy but also contributes to making the skies safer for migrating birds.
Hotel Earns 4 Green Keys Certification
Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia has also earned the prestigious 4 Green Keys certification from Green Key Global. This certification recognizes the hotel’s leadership in environmental management and corporate social responsibility, further establishing Four Seasons Philadelphia as a national leader in sustainable hospitality practices.
“As this is our first time submitting for Green Key, it's a phenomenal achievement to be awarded 4 Green Keys on our first year,” says Steven Byrum-Bratsen, Director of Engineering. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as our ongoing commitment to environmental protection.”
This significant milestone highlights the Hotel’s mature environmental programs, which engage not only management and employees but also guests and the wider community. Through these programs, Four Seasons Philadelphia has made a measurable impact on reducing its environmental footprint, underscoring its dedication to sustainable practices.
Sustainable Guest Room Floor LED Lighting Initiative
As part of the Hotel’s ongoing efforts to promote energy efficiency, Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia has also completed a major sustainability upgrade: the full conversion of all guest room floor hallways to LED lighting. This project, which included both front-of-house and guest rooms, significantly reduces energy consumption while providing guests with an enhanced lighting experience throughout their stay.
For the Employees: Celebrating Earth Day Every Friday in April
In celebration of sustainability this April, Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia will observe Earth Day every Friday, focusing on initiatives that promote both health and environmental impact. These efforts aim to engage employees and foster a deeper connection to the planet and its preservation.
- Plant-Based Meals for Employee Dining: Each Friday, the hotel is featuring plant-based meals in the property’s Employee Dining space. These eco-friendly dishes, crafted by the culinary team, are designed to offer both delicious and sustainable dining options. While plant-based meals will take centre stage, animal protein options will remain available for those who prefer them. The Hotel encourages all employees to try something new and explore the benefits of plant-based eating for their health and the environment.
- Volunteer Opportunity with MANNA: In partnership with MANNA, a nonprofit dedicated to nourishing those in need through food as medicine, the Hotel is offering employees the opportunity to volunteer and support this important cause. MANNA’s mission aligns with the spirit of Earth Day, as it promotes health and wellness through sustainable food systems.
