In celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the iconic Route 66 this November, Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe invites guests to experience the enduring allure of the “Mother Road” through a thoughtfully curated collection of cultural, culinary and wellness programming. Rooted in Santa Fe’s rich history as an original stop along the legendary route, these immersive offerings also honor the independent spirit of Rancho Encantado itself, first transformed into a destination retreat in 1968 by trailblazing entrepreneur Betty Egan. Much like Route 66, Egan’s vision embodied exploration, individuality and a deep connection to place, shaping a legacy that continues to define the property today.

“Route 66 has long symbolized discovery, adventure and the unique stories found along the journey,” says General Manager Shannon Schwier. “The history of Rancho Encantado is equally rooted in that spirit, thanks to Betty Egan’s pioneering vision and fearless leadership. As we celebrate this 100-year milestone, we’re honored to bring these legacies together through experiences that invite guests to explore, connect and create their own stories here in the Land of Enchantment.”

A Legacy of Trailblazing Spirit

The story of Rancho Encantado is one of bold vision and unforgettable personalities. In 1968, Betty Egan purchased the ranch that would become Rancho Encantado, transforming it into a beloved hideaway and naming it after New Mexico’s moniker, the “Land of Enchantment.” A true pioneer, Egan went on to found the Tesuque Fire Department in 1970 and served two terms as chief—becoming the first female fire chief in the United States. Her magnetic presence and adventurous spirit drew an eclectic and illustrious mix of guests to the property over the years, including Peter Sellers, the Prince Rainier family, Jimmy Stewart, Johnny Cash, Nelson Rockefeller, John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Much like the travelers who journeyed Route 66 in search of inspiration and connection, Egan cultivated Rancho Encantado as a destination for discovery, continued by Four Seasons today.

The Mother Road Journey: Route 66-Themed City Tour
Explore centuries of Santa Fe's transportation history on this immersive, three-hour journey offered through the property’s onsite Adventure Center. From Indigenous trade routes and El Camino Real to the Santa Fe Trail and America's legendary Mother Road, guests will discover how Santa Fe became a crossroads of travel, culture and commerce long before the automobile era. Highlights include Museum Hill, the historic Plaza, Palace of the Governors, San Miguel Chapel, Loretto Chapel, 109 East Palace, the Santa Fe Trail and the city's original Route 66 marker. The tour concludes at the iconic El Rey Court, a classic Route 66 motor court that opened in 1936, offering a fitting finale to Santa Fe's fascinating chapter on America's most famous highway. The tour is available starting at USD 525 for up to two people.

Santa Fe 505 Cocktail

Raise a glass to 100 years of Route 66 at Terra Bar with the “Santa Fe 505” cocktail, offered for USD 18, created exclusively for the centennial celebration. This effervescent libation blends locally inspired Altar Sigil Gin with fresh lemon and simple syrup, finished with a celebratory Gruet sparkling wine float. Served in a classic coupe, the cocktail draws inspiration from the timeless French 75 while reflecting the distinct flavors and character of New Mexico. Crisp, bright and subtly celebratory, the Santa Fe 505 is a toast to the enduring legacy of the Mother Road and the pioneering spirit that continues to define Rancho Encantado.

“Soul of the Southwest” Wellness Journey

Honoring the restorative essence of the Southwest, the Spa is offering a bespoke wellness experience inviting guests to reconnect and recharge in celebration of Route 66’s centennial milestone. The Soul of the Southwest journey begins with a 60-minute healing sound bath in the resort’s light-filled Movement Studio, offering a meditative foundation for deep relaxation. Guests then transition into a fully customized, 50-minute Bespoke Massage, designed to restore balance and promote overall wellbeing. Each treatment is enhanced by a choice of signature dry oil infusion from Natura Bissé, thoughtfully formulated with botanicals and aromatherapeutic actives designed to support fitness, detoxification, stress management or energy restoration.

Following the treatment, guests are invited to unwind in a private courtyard sanctuary featuring hot tubs, steam rooms and a dry sauna—an intimate space to reflect, reset and embrace the tranquil rhythm of the high desert. The Soul of the Southwest is offered for USD 450, not inclusive of tax or gratuity.
