Silence, Reflection, Connection: Take Time for Stillness on Balinese New Year’s “Silent Day” at Four Seasons Sayan and Jimbaran Bay
Falling on March 29 in 2025, Nyepi – New Year in the Balinese Saka lunar calendar - is a one-of-a-kind experience not found anywhere else in the world. Known as “Silent Day,” this heartfelt event is honoured through peaceful reflection, prayer and meditation.
To mark this special day, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay and Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan bring together an array of cultural activities and inspiring traditions. Ensuring guests can immerse in every mindful moment, the Resorts’ Stay Longer offer includes a complimentary fourth night with every three consecutive paid nights.
Seeking Stillness
Reflecting the island's unique spiritual essence, Bali’s New Year is not a loud, socially demanding time but a chance to rest and recharge. Restorative silence is upheld across the island: the airport is closed; no fire or lights are permitted for 24 hours, and people stay home with their families. Because of this focus on together time, Nyepi celebrates the values of kindness, connection and love.
A Cultural Immersion
Cultural events are very much a part of Nyepi. Guests at Four Seasons Resorts Bali are invited to take part in a multitude of complimentary experiences. At Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, watch a traditional Ogoh-Ogoh Parade and Fire Ritual: a ritualistic burning of huge “evil spirit” puppets to make room for peace and happiness in the coming year. Over at Four Seasons Sayan, discover the art of klangsah - woven coconut leaf mats used to make hats, bowls, handbags, baskets and ornaments - and gebogan, intricate fruit towers offered in ceremonies for blessings.
Other complimentary activities at Sayan include Visuddha “Truth” Chakra Yoga on Pengerupukan or Nyepi Eve to prepare for Nyepi through a focus on the throat chakra’s attributes of purpose and individuality. On Nyepi itself, a morning session of Ajna “Perception” Chakra Yoga attunes guests to third eye energy, while an evening meditation under the stars is a chance to truly embrace the tranquillity.
Oceanfront Jimbaran Bay offers several complimentary experiences too, including Chakra Darshan Yoga: a powerful practice to start the Silent Day with the rise of divine Kundalini energy up the spine. At the Resort Temple, the Sila Giri Kesarah Temple Experience and Nyepi Storytelling is an invitation to seek blessings and learn more about this sacred festival. There are complimentary interactive classes too: the art of Askara calligraphy and the chance to make Balinese Canang offerings, sweet rice cakes and herbal health tonics.
Treasured Family Time
With the promise of uninterrupted together time, Nyepi is a wonderful period for families to visit Bali. Memory-making abounds through shared cultural activities while both Resorts offer corresponding child-friendly Nyepi-inspired experiences at their Kids’ Club.
“Nyepi allows us to start the new year feeling refreshed and restored," comments Mathilde Adam, Senior Commercial Director of Four Seasons Resorts Bali. “Taking time to pause is a rare thing indeed in our busy lives, and we love sharing the transformative possibilities of this Balinese focus on tranquillity with our global guests. Our cultural ambassadors take pride in their unique traditions and it’s a wonderful time for locals and visitors alike to come together in peace and stillness.”
