This festive season, sister properties Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan and Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay welcome guests to explore this rich heritage through SOUL: The Living Art of Bali.  

The Soul of the Island

This year, the resorts blend the warmth of festive tradition with the element of soul by taking cues from Bali itself, with celebrations shaped by the creativity, traditions and sense of joy that define the island’s identity. This commitment to local culture extends beyond the guest experience through support of Jnana Heritage Reimagined, a cultural enterprise working with Sekaa Teruna Teruni (village youth organisations) to keep Balinese arts relevant, accessible and economically sustainable.

Throughout the festive period, every guest stay at Four Seasons Resorts Bali contributes to the six-month Creative Industry Education program sponsored by the resorts and run by Jnana. The program gives young Balinese artisans the opportunity to develop their creative skills, learn how to turn their craft into sustainable livelihoods and carry the island’s artistic traditions into the future.

The work of the current cohort is woven naturally throughout the festive experience, from bespoke Christmas trees to lobby decorations and wreaths for villa doors. Specially crafted amenities allow guests to take home a lasting reminder of Bali. These thoughtful details offer a glimpse into the creativity and craftsmanship being nurtured through the program.

Living Culture

Alongside this meaningful commitment, guests can discover the many expressions of Bali’s living culture across both resorts. At Jimbaran Bay, the spirit of the ocean is reflected in handcrafted bamboo and woven palm installations, sunset ceremonies and beachside gatherings illuminated by firelight. At Sayan, the Ayung River and surrounding jungle provide the backdrop for moments of quiet wonder, from a torchlit arrival to riverside gamelan performances where music echoes from the riverbanks.

Each day, guests are invited to step beyond observation and into participation. They can learn the ancient art of Kamasan painting, craft traditional shadow puppets, shape Balinese clay by hand and hear the stories behind each practice from the artisans themselves. Evening performances celebrate the island's living traditions through music, dance and storytelling, including the Wayang Kulit Night – a shadow puppet theatre inspired by the Balinese Hindu epic Ramayana.

A Legacy Beyond the Festive Season

The impact of this year’s festive season will continue long after the decorations come down. The cohort supported through the sponsorship of Four Seasons Resorts Bali will complete Jnana’s six-month Creative Industry Education program in June 2027. The young artisans will then come together to showcase the work and skills they have developed throughout their journey.

A festive stay becomes part of a longer story, helping create opportunities for young Balinese creatives while supporting the continuation of the island’s artistic heritage.
