Washington, DC, U.S.A.

Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC  adds to its extensive display of fine art with Robert Haft’s highly colourful outdoor sculpture exhibition, entitled The Shapes that Changed the World – on display until October 10, 2019.

Robert Haft is an artist and sculptor who uses acrylic to create vibrant works of art that challenge the issue of colour. Inspired by Euclid’s geometry, the periodic table, the Phi ratio, the Fibonacci sequence and the value of simplicity, the artist has combined his early learnings from design school to a lifelong study of colour to create the vibrant works of art now on display in the gardens of Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC.

When describing his art, Robert Haft says, “I love the work. It’s creating sculptural pieces with colour and light that reflect the shapes that changed the world. I am encouraged that the simplicity of colour and shape, and how we perceive it, is personal and unsettled.”

The modern art collection at Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC accentuates the Hotel’s contemporary decor with internationally recognised works by predominantly American artists. The collection is composed of more than 1,650 pieces, 400 of which are premier, blue chip and commissioned pieces for the public spaces and corridors. Among the more prominent public area pieces are works by Roni Stretch, Helen Frankenthaler, Andy Warhol, Robert Mangold, Ron Richmond, Andrea Rosenberg, Fernando Botero and Andrei Petrov. These were purchased from private collections and exclusive galleries throughout the United States.

Be on the lookout for Warhol’s rare trial proof Indian Head Nickel in the lobby and Raymond Mason’s two-piece sculpture depicting the creation of DC in the BOURBON STEAK courtyard and along the hotel’s exterior.

Regional Vice President and General Manager David Bernand says, “What I love about Robert’s work is that we have been able to create osmosis between the art and our garden. Robert used a truly holistic approach to enliven shaded areas with bright light and create reflections that bring the outside in. It has been an honour to assist in curating this exhibition.”
