Chakra - The Wheel of Life
The human body is full of mysteries. One of the natural powers that exists in our selves is the energy system called chakra, which in Sanskrit means a wheel. The energy in our body flows clockwise from the centre in different frequencies. The frequencies of the chakras are connected with other organ functions, which is why chakras are essential indicators of complete well-being including physical health, mood and mind.
The chakra system in the human body comprises seven different kinds of chakras, each of which accounts for different organ functions.
- Muladhara is the earth or root chakra, which is the foundation of life energy. Located in the base of the spine, it governs base instincts, mental stability and sensuality.
- Swadhisthana, the water or sacral chakra, is located in the lower abdomen and governs fertility, sexual virility, self-worth and creativity. It is also associated with emotional balance, desire and pleasure. This chakra helps with the letting go of stored emotions and is connected to a healthy balance in life. When it’s functioning well, swadhisthana brings enhanced emotional gratification, higher self-esteem and free-flowing creativity energy.
- Manipura or the fire chakra is connected with the digestive system, nutrient absorption, waste filtration system, and reinforces the alimentary system.
- Anahata or the wind chakra helps with emotional control, faith, love (heart), spirit and heals heart and vascular diseases.
- Vishuddha or an ether chakra is connected with creativity, communication, intellectual balance, the respiratory system and helps heal sinuses, asthma and lung diseases.
- Ajna, the divine third eye chakra, is the mind chakra, the source of intelligence. Located at the occipital bone between the eyebrows, this chakra controls balance, perception, intuition and mental experience.
- Sahasrara, the chakra which is believed to be the summit of all chakras, is located at the top of the head. It is the chakra that helps you delve into your spirit. It is also linked with the release of diseases concerning the brain, eyes, ears, and neurons.
Chakra massage therapies, oil massage targeting specific parts of the body, and yoga can all help to keep the chakras balanced.
