Hawaii Island Designer Manaola Creates Custom Print for Four Seasons Resort Hualalai
Manaola, the renowned Hawaiian fashion brand, has designed a custom print for Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, used for in-room beach totes and select employee uniforms. The custom print features a Hawaiian dietary staple, ulu (Hawaiian breadfruit), and was specifically designed for the Resort's location at Kaupulehu.
Manaola Yap, the founder and designer of the brand, draws inspiration from Hawaii's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Born and raised on Hawaii Island, Yap's cultural upbringing as a native Hawaiian hula practitioner is translated into his designs, which embody the repetitious patterns found in nature.
Yap was born into a family whose cultural and artistic roots run deep into the volcanic soil of Hawai‘i Island. For generations before contact with the West, his ancestors were hula practitioners and artisans of traditional Hawaiian textiles and dyes. Raised amid this tradition of creativity, Manaola stands upon the strong foundation laid out by his kūpuna (ancestors).
The beach totes, which guests may use complimentary during their stay, are made from a compostable jute material and printed using sustainable ink. The sustainable design underscores the Resort's commitment to the environment and reflects Manaola's dedication to creating fashion that is both beautiful and environmentally responsible.
"The collaboration with Manaola exemplifies our desire to connect guests with the rich culture of Hawaii Island,” says Melissa Galindo, Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. "We hope that this custom print, featuring the ulu, will serve as a reminder of the history of Kaupulehu, the beauty and abundance of Hawaii, and the importance of preserving its story for generations to come.”
