The amenity scent, Lanai, is a custom blend of ti leaf and lemon verbena. In ancient Hawai’i, the native lai, or ti plant, was considered a great purifier. The sacred leaves were gathered early in the morning when it was believed that the strength of their spiritual power, or mana, was at its peak. According to history, a person in need of spiritual cleansing was then wrapped in the leaves in preparation for the heat of the sun, which was used to release the plant’s purifying agent. The ti plant is very important as Hawaiians use it in diverse ways, from cooking to lei making.
Lemon verbena, or wapine, was introduced to Hawai’i in the early 1900s and was valued as a healing plant that could be grounded into a purifying wash, released as an aromatic steam, and brewed as tea for healing.
The product lineup - hand and body wash, shampoo and conditioner, and body serum - features a blend of active ingredients designed to nourish skin and hair. Additional components include black seed oil to promote scalp health and natural shine, and shea butter and meadowfoam seed oil for deep hydration and a silky finish in the serum. All products are free from sulphates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, silicones and phthalates.
The scent is blended by International Flavors and Fragrances, a global fragrance house which works with local producers around the world and has a strict ethos of complete transparency, and is committed to environmental management and sustainable development.
