Beyond the Stay: A Thoughtful Approach to Sustainability at Four Seasons Hotel Singapore
At Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, responsible hospitality is reflected in the thoughtful choices made every day. From conserving resources and reducing waste to supporting local producers and celebrating Singapore’s heritage, the hotel continues to advance initiatives that create a positive impact on the environment and community.
A Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)-certified establishment, the Hotel takes a holistic approach to sustainability, encompassing responsible operations, sourcing, environmental stewardship and community engagement.
Thoughtful Operations, Reduced Impact
Behind the scenes, technology and resource-conscious practices help the hotel minimise waste and improve operational efficiency.
In the kitchens, Lumitics, an artificial intelligence-powered food waste tracking system, provides insights into food discarded, helping culinary teams refine preparation and production. Its technology partner reports an average food waste reduction of up to 40 percent across participating operations.
Energy-efficient guest room controls and LED lighting support energy conservation, while rainwater harvesting provides water for landscape irrigation. The hotel also minimises single-use plastics through large-format bath amenities, wooden key cards and the elimination of disposable food and beverage containers and water bottles.
Recycling and organic waste diversion programs further support these efforts, alongside an on-site food waste digestion system. At buffet stations, reusable EcoBurners replace disposable fuel wicks, reducing associated waste.
Supporting Local Producers and Responsible Sourcing
The Hotel continues to strengthen its relationships with local suppliers, prioritising locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
Since 2023, the hotel has also partnered with Mireia Farm, cultivating vanilla beans on the hotel premises, with the goal of bringing farm to kitchen closer together, allowing chefs to incorporate freshly harvested vanilla into their creations.
Seasonal and sustainable ingredients, including locally sourced cage-free eggs, feature across its dining venues. Vegetarian and vegan selections offer further choice, while endangered marine species and shark fin are excluded from all hotel menus.
The Hotel also uses eco-certified cleaning products and supports Singapore-based artisans through the retail collection at The Spa.
Celebrating Nature and Local Heritage
Situated near the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the hotel offers guests opportunities to discover Singapore’s botanical heritage through curated experiences that encourage a deeper appreciation of nature and biodiversity.
Closer to home, a collection of approximately 1,500 artworks celebrates Singaporean artists and artisans alongside the wider artistic heritage of Asia, bringing a sense of place and cultural connection to the guest experience.
A Lasting Commitment Beyond the Hotel
The Hotel's commitment to responsible hospitality extends to the wider community. Since 1993, it has supported Run for Hope in partnership with the National Cancer Centre Singapore, bringing the community together to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
Colleagues also participate in volunteer initiatives at senior assisted living facilities, while annual Human Trafficking Awareness training reinforces the hotel's commitment to ethical practices and respect for human dignity.
