Aegean Meets Assyrtiko: Summer Degustation at Pelagos Restaurant at Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens

August 19, 2019,
Athens, Greece

A new seafood degustation menu awaits at the elegant seafront restaurant Pelagos at Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens.

Enjoy a sumptuous menu over five courses that celebrate the fruits of the Aegean Sea, each thoughtfully paired with an Assyrtiko wine, chosen to heighten each dish and showcase Greece’s most striking white grape variety.

Indigenous to the volcanic soils of Santorini, Assyrtiko grapes are now widely grown throughout the country, with vineyards on the island of Crete and northern Greece producing uniquely aromatic and bold wines. Diners will have the opportunity to enjoy each course paired with an Assyrtiko wine from different regions.

The menu begins with a tsipoura or sea bream tartar, avocado, chives and fish roe paired with a glass of Alargo Assyrtiko from Crete’s renowned Douloufakis Winery. Market fresh langoustines are another highlight, accompanied by Gaia Wines’ Santorini Assyrtiko, which captures the magic of the island’s terroir. Octopus with Santorini fava, grilled fresh seabass with saffron orzo and the chef’s special lemon confit with crunchy meringue complete the menu.

The vintage-inspired dining room at Pelagos, with its pared-back sophistication, enhances this gastronomic experience, thanks to the finesse of internationally acclaimed Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki.

From beginning to end, this five-course seafood degustation menu provides guests with a tasting table of some of Greece’s best aquatic fare and most dynamic examples of its favourite summer wine.
