Taverna 37: Introducing a Rustic Seafront Dining Experience at Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens

June 12, 2019,
Athens, Greece

Mediterranean cuisine and the traditional flavours of Greece permeate at Taverna 37, which overlooks Aegean at Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens.

With the warm and relaxed atmosphere of a traditional Greek taverna, Taverna 37 offers the essence of summer eating in Greece, outdoors by the water’s edge, surrounded by nature.

Led by Head Chef Theodoros Karinos, Taverna 37’s produce is sourced from various regions around Greece, honouring a commitment to support high-level local producers, which evidently enhances every dish on the menu. Whether it’s an intimate lunch for two or a family of ten for a long afternoon meal, this is a Greek taverna experience at the highest level.

Hotel patrons and visitors can expect a daily souvla, or slow-roasted spit roast of the day, cooked rotisserie style over hot coals and served with organic vegetables. House-made bread, baked in the taverna’s wood-fired oven, complements traditional meze, including charcoal grilled eggplant and shrimps saganaki with barrel-aged feta cheese.

A lunchtime aperitif such as tsipouro (a pure grape distillate) pairs perfectly with the grilled barbouni, red mullet with pangs of lemon zest and extra virgin olive oil that is synonymous with summers spent in Greece.

Paidakia, or grilled lamb chops, are the house signature dish, carefully combining the flavour of charcoal cooking with the simple flavours of lemon and oregano that are so quintessentially Greek.

Every good meal ends with dessert and the galaktoboureko is among the best - baked in deep terracotta clay pots, sweet, thick custard lies between delicate phyllo pastry, with a top crispy layer that glistens with syrup.

From beginning to end, Taverna 37 will provide guests with a new benchmark for taverna style eating.
