Spending carefree days enjoying meals with loved ones until the sun dips languidly into the sea is an experience that lies at the heart of every classic Greek summer. These are the moments that remain indelibly etched in the collective memory shared with family and friends. Now, Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens introduces an exclusive new al fresco culinary offering this summer that aims to redefine private dining.

Executive Chef Bertrand Valegeas oversees the dining experience at the resort and is enthusiastic about the possibilities. “Now, more than ever, there is a need to pamper the ones you love, cherish every moment and spend precious time together,” he says.

Valegeas believes in simple food crafted with the highest quality raw ingredients, which he and his dedicated team source from throughout Greece and beyond. “The beauty of this country is that we can have almost anything we want. We have fresh fish and seafood straight from the Aegean, fine pasture-raised organic meat and wild herbs collected from the mountains,” he says.

Fishermen arrive every morning with a gleaming catch of the day selection, which often encompasses live langoustines. Crisp vegetables, aromatic fruit, and cheeses and free-range eggs from family-run dairy farms are plentiful. “It’s so easy for us to prepare a wonderful meal for you and your significant other, your family or friends. Just let us know your specific preferences and we are ready to create a luxury private dining experience to remember,” Valegeas notes.

Catering to small groups from two to 50 people, guests can choose from three spectacular outdoor locations:

  • Book a private dining experience at the Garden Cabana for between two and eight people, where guests can indulge in a relaxing sunset dinner with views of the glimmering Saronic Gulf.
  • Larger parties may prefer the semi-private lawn space Al Fresco by Mercato, in front of the resort’s elegant Italian trattoria, which caters for between 10 and 50 guests. It is particularly well-suited for marking a special occasion, such as a birthday.
  • Make the grandest of romantic gestures by arranging a lavish dinner for two at Zolotas Beach, a unique, lantern-lit location right on the water that promises the ultimate in privacy and a dramatic sunset. The space, ideal for an engagement or anniversary celebration, can cater for up to six guests.

Four menus are available. Skewered chargrilled prawns, sardines, octopus and fish served with wild greens, Greek and Niçoise salads feature on the Fish Barbecue menu. Prime beef escalope, tenderloin, lamb chops, Greek kebab, grilled vegetables and New York strawberry cheesecake count among the highlights of the Meat Barbecue menu.

Candle Light Menus I and II are four- and five-courses, respectively, and feature dishes such as king crab tartare, red mullet with sweet shallots and a lobster bisque, US prime rib eye with potato gnocchi and a parmesan and red wine sauce, and pavlova with red berries and white chocolate cream.

Special arrangements can be made for vegan and vegetarian diners.
