Enjoy a Taste of Rome with Authentic Maritozzi at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River
Originating during the Roman Empire, maritozzi are traditional sweet buns filled with cream, especially popular in Rome. But what many don’t know is that maritozzi are seen throughout Italy as a sign of true love. These succulent desserts are often given by a husband (marito) to his wife, as a daily reminder of their love.
Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River resident Italian and Executive Chef Andrea Accordi wanted to share his love of maritozzi with Bangkok. Accordi partnered with the Hotel's new Executive Pastry Chef and fellow Italian Andrea Bonaffini to create elevated authentic maritozzi.
“Over the last two years, I have found myself longing for an authentic maritozzo,” says Accordi. “When back home in Italy, I often grab a few maritozzi to bring home to my wife as a tradition to show our love to one another. So when Chef Bonaffini started, I knew our first project had to be an elevated version to share with our guests.”
The two Andreas quickly started testing recipes until they found the perfect combination. “The ideal maritozzo needs to have a light brioche bun, filled with decadent sweet cream,” says Bonaffini. “Our maritozzi have a beautiful airy bun, and we elevated our cream with the choice of Tahitian vanilla or the best Thai dark chocolate we could find. The result will take you on a trip to the streets of Rome.”
“When our first batch of maritozzi were finished, I knew we had something special,” says Accordi. “I took my first bite and immediately was transported back to Italy. Finally, I could enjoy an authentic maritozzo in Asia.”
