Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, the exclusive oceanfront oasis located on the pristine Kona-Kohala coast of the island of Hawaii, has been named one of the “Best Newly Completed Hotel Renovations in the US” by Departures’ 2021 Legend Awards.

Departures’ Legend Awards are focused solely on finding the best in luxury travel, hospitality, architecture, culture, food and beverage. The awards are selected by editors’ choice based on first-hand or extensively researched experiences from April 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021. The honourees are chosen with a rigorous vetting process, in which Departures’ panel of travel editors weighs in on each selection.

“We could not be more excited to be recognised by Departures, a leader in luxury lifestyle,” says Four Seasons Resort Hualalai General Manager Charlie Parker. “Ultimately, the goal of the renovation was to amplify the ‘home away from home’ experience that is such a treasured part of the Resort and keeps guests coming back year after year. Striving to deliver both world-class service and a one-of-a-kind experience is our top priority. On behalf of our Four Seasons Resort Hualalai ohana, we are honoured to have achieved this accolade.”

Marking the Resort’s first large-scale renovation since its debut, the USD 100+ million property-wide transformation, helmed by BAMO, contemporises its aesthetic while holding onto the essence of Hualalai’s authentic Hawaiian architecture and design. This includes the enhancement of all 249 guest rooms and suites, with new furniture, décor, bathroom finishes and upgraded technology. This summer, the Resort’s top three villas - Hawaii Loa, Makaloa and Ho’onanea - will each be expanded to add a second story and unique design elements. With the debut of these villas, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai will define a new level of luxury, hosting the largest and most luxurious villa room product in all of Hawaii. The renovated suites will be ideal for multi-generational travel, small groups and extended families or friends travelling together.

At King’s Pond, Hualalai’s 1.8-million-gallon (6.8 million litre) swimmable aquarium born from the concepts of marine and ocean preservation and education, guests now enjoy a new, elevated infinity pool and lounge deck. The Resort also debuted the Kumu Kai Marine Center, featuring a touch tank and digital educational displays. This facility is home to six on-staff Marine Biologists who lead a curriculum of marine life experiences, including a Private Eagle Ray Feeding, Tide Pool Tour, Jr. Marine Biologist Experience and more. To complement the new amenities at King’s Pond, guests can enjoy a gourmet poolside menu from Executive Chef Richard Polhemus featuring sustainable and local ingredients presented in upscale bento boxes.

The Hualalai Golf Course, the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course on the island, completed a transformation with reshaping of the greens and bunkers, among a modern new Platinum Paspalum turf. The new, professional level turf transforms both the playability and appearance with its unique feel and rich emerald aesthetic. Complementing the renovation to the golf course, Hualalai recently announced a new addition to its award-winning golf program, the Hualalai Golf Hale. This 3,000 square-foot (280 square metre) instruction and practice facility is the ultimate destination for golf enthusiasts of all ages, including Resort guests and Hualalai Club members. In addition to exclusive programming to improve one’s golf game with state-of-the-art technology and expert instruction, the facility doubles as an entertainment venue with a multitude of games, audio-visual flexibility, and food and beverage opportunities. It is the only facility of its kind in all of Hawaii.
