A Year of Achievements at Four Seasons Hotel São Paulo, the First Four Seasons in Brazil
An installation of 537 crystal lights on an infinity backdrop hangs over the reception desk of Four Seasons Hotel São Paulo, as a foresight of what guests may expect from the company's first hotel in the country. Opened in October 2018 – over a year in operation – the venue combines design, modernity and comfort while keeping its Brazilian identity.
Located at Parque da Cidade’s complex, the new financial centre of São Paulo city, the 29-floor enterprise showcases a 258-room hotel and an 84-apartment residential building. The edifice is set on a great landscape garden, designed by Sergio Santana, who brought 120 trees from the Atlantic Forest to attract various species of native birds.
The architectural concept of the building is designed by North American Studio HKS Architects in partnership with Brazilian office Aflalo e Gasperini Arquitetos. In 2019, the project was granted the LEED Certification, an international certification system for sustainable buildings focused on the efficient usage of water, energy, atmosphere, materials and resources, among other innovations.
The interior design of the Hotel's communal areas and rooms was developed by San Francisco's Studio BAMO. The project highlights the national spirit in every detail: right at the entrance there's a trio of sculptures by Francisco Brennand set on titanium marble floors brought from Acre. The spiral staircase on the background is a real eye catcher, with its red backside that makes it so remarkable. This is just one detail among many that reference the work of Oscar Niemeyer with its curves and modernist aesthetics. They’ve carried out a comprehensive research to find items such as furniture from Tora Brasil and Tidelli, the classical leather chairs signed by celebrated architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, and the wall panelling created by Nani Chinelato, made from banana leaf fibres and silk thread.
Over the past year, Four Seasons Hotel São Paulo has been selected as a finalist for international awards such as the Large Hotel International category at the Surface Travel Awards, which selects interior design projects that combine hospitality and design. Other accolades include The Best of Year Awards for Best Hotel, by celebrated North-American magazine Interior Design, and the Development of the Year at the Hotel Opportunities Latin America awards.
The Hotel's lighting design was put under the international spotlight when it won the LIT Lighting Design Awards in the Hotel and Restaurant Lighting category, one of the most important international awards for lighting projects in the world. It was also a finalist at Frame Awards 2020, by the reputable Dutch magazine, in the Best Use of Light category.
The first floor of the Hotel is entirely focused on the events area, comprised of the Ballroom, Foyer, Terrace, Boardroom and Meeting Rooms, which fit various needs. The interior design was developed by North-American studio EDG Design, who highlighted natural lighting and focused on a singular décor that showcases artworks and design pieces by Brazilian artists such as Rubens Ianelli and Bianca Barbato.
At the end of 2019, restaurant Neto was the only one in Latin America to be granted the Three Forks award, top rating of high profile guide Gambero Rosso, which ranks the best Italian restaurants in the world. Neto represents the encounter of Italian cuisine’s traditional recipes and the rich diversity of national ingredients. As its name suggests, the concept comes from the idea of having the grandson of a nonna heading the kitchen, and it translates into a contemporary menu summarised as “Italian at its core, Brazilian in its roots,” conceived by the Hotel’s Executive Chef Paolo Lavezzini.
Bar Caju focus on international mixology made with national ingredients and on classic Brazilian bar snacks, such as coxinha and pastel. In its first year in operation, Negroni Experience, a cocoa-infused vermouth and banana-infused Campari cocktail was considered the best in São Paulo by Guia da Folha.
Four Seasons Spa is a sanctuary designed to create connection and uplift body, mind and spirit. A soul-stirring venue focused on natural elements and materials. The menu comprises 25 face and body wellness therapies, three of which are exclusive: Experiência Four Seasons (Four Seasons Experience), Feminino Sagrado (Sacred Feminine) and Jornada Olfativa (Olfactory Journey). On the Wellness Floor, the heavenly designed sauna and the indoor/outdoor pool are the cherry on top of this experience for those who look for a break. With its natural lighting and view of the trees, the eco-friendly gym is equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym gear.
Even the 84 private residences have a national DNA. Studio Arthur Casas designed the décor, offering a perfect combination of homey comfort and the ever-so-attentive high standard Four Seasons service.
