New Artist in Residence Program Revealed by Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti has announced the launch of a new Artist in Residence program, which will feature a total of seven artists at the Lodge throughout 2019. As part of the program, each artist will be present at Four Seasons Safari Lodge for a period of two weeks to two months, allowing guests to see their creative works come to life stroke by stroke, with individual pieces also available to buy.

The Artist in Residence program will feature no fewer than six home-grown talents from Tanzania, all with varying styles and designs to showcase to guests throughout the year.

Commenting on his creative journey, Dullah Wise, Artist in Residence for September and October, says: “I have been drawing ever since I can remember. When I was just eleven years old my father noticed my talent and sent me to an art school at Old Fort, Cultural Art Gallery in Zanzibar. Shortly after that a dream was becoming reality. In my spare time I like to draw Zanzibar doors, dhows, Stone Town buildings, local buses, fishermen and many more by using brush, pen and ink, charcoal, oil colour, acrylic colour, water colour, pastel and other media.”

The Lodge’s 2019 Artists in Residence comprises six local artists, plus the return of British former Artist in Residence Louis Parsons:  

• January–February: Hassan Majeshi – Working to create both 2D and 3D designs, Majeshi often uses recycled materials to complement his artwork made from acrylic and oils on canvas. Majeshi seeks to represent hidden challenges in society, raising awareness through art.
• March–April: Pendael Naftal Mollel - Famous for his wildlife acrylics, Mollel, who is of Maasai origin, studied at the Art Cultural Association of Arusha (ACAA) and now uses the beauty of his work to help build awareness for the importance of conservation.
• May–June: Dickson Deus – A master of a variety of painting styles, Dickson Deus’ portfolio includes fine art, vivid palette knife works of colour and a number of wildlife and cultural paintings.
• July 6-16: Louis Parsons - As a student of both art and psychology, Parsons’ career has taken him on a global journey to consult and discover on aspects that allow him to better understand the human soul, which in turn have led to his creation of SoulScapes.
• July 20  – September 20: Batromeo Jomeke - Jomeke has been painting since he was just 15 years old. His passion is for realistic interpretations of animals and people, with a particular focus on Maasai.
• September 20 – October 31: Dullah Wise – Following his debut as an Artist in Residence in 2018, Zanzibar born Dullah Wise will return in late 2019 to showcase more of his acrylic collection.
• November–December: Obadiah Mbise – Passionate about inspiring future generations of artists, Obadiah Mbise has taught art to children in local orphanages, sharing his passion for paintings of nature and wildlife.
