With a passion for travel, wellness and food, and a unique sensibility honed from a Mauritian upbringing, Senior Director of Spa Joelle Jennepy understands the many ways that people connect with luxury and wellness. “Every person’s reason for visiting the Spa is different, as are their needs. It’s therefore the ability to personalise a wellness experience that makes it special, helping each individual achieve a state of mindfulness.”

Growing up in Vacoas, a town in the centre of Mauritius, Joelle was blessed to find no end of flowering endemic plants around her. In her early years, Joelle spent a lot of time with her grandmother who taught her the medicinal properties of these plants and how they could be used to cure common ailments and to restore and transform the look of the skin. Joelle says: “Learning how to make scrubs from lemon paste made me curious about natural ingredients, fragrances and their rejuvenating properties. This is in fact what led to the start of my spa journey, as I realised that my passion lay in learning about the nature of Mauritius and sharing the benefits that this could bring.”

Most recently, Joelle was appointed Senior Director of Spa, overseeing six properties in the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa. “My personal mantra is ‘always keep learning and lead from a place of humility,’” says Joelle. It is this approach that has guided her through a hospitality career that spans almost 20 years. Working across a number of Mauritian resorts, Joelle held positions at the various LUX* properties, before finally being appointed as regional spa and wellness manager. Her love of nature' combined with a desire to understand the latest cutting-edge technology and her business acumen, has seen Joelle guide many spas to the next level, always seeking out ways to evolve and offer the best experience to each guest.

At heart, what defines Joelle is her love of people. Beyond enjoying time cooking at home with her husband, Joelle devotes her free time to teaching English to students from the local elementary school or giving back to the community by engaging herself in benevolent activities organised by her parish.
