Whether you are a first-time traveller or a return visitor, Hong Kong will surprise you with its sheer number of experiences catering to every interest. Much more than skyscrapers and shopping, Hong Kong offers a unique mixture of tradition and modernity, from serene mountains with scenic hiking trails to traditional fishing villages and bustling rooftop bars. A place where east meets west.

Visit one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world

West of the city center lies the mountainous terrain of Lantau Island, home to the Big Tian Tan Buddha, one of the largest seated statue of the deity worldwide. The most enjoyable way to reach Big Buddha is to take a scenic ride on the Ngong Ping Cable Car.

One of the best days to see the monastery is on Buddha's birthday. Gather with the crowds to watch the monks bathe the feet of all the Buddha statues. Otherwise we suggest to visit on weekday mornings to avoid the pack.

Place your bets at Happy Valley Racecourse

With a different theme each week, this weekly horse-racing event is popular with both expats and locals. Feeling more like a party than a sporting event, the racecourse offers great food, drinks and entertainment every Wednesday evening. Watch local punters poring over the form papers, before putting down staggering amounts of money on every possible combination of riders. Surely worth a visit even if you are not a gambler.

Ride the Star Ferry across the iconic skyline

A trusted form of transportation since 1888, the Star Ferry holds a special place in the hearts of locals. For a nominal fee, you will be chartered on one of the most scenic boat rides along the prized iconic skyline, the Victoria Harbour. Get a front or back row seat on the upper deck for the best views, and flip the backrests to face the direction for the best picture.

Tell your future at Temple Street

Get a glimpse of your future by paying a visit to the Temple Street for a nightly street bazaar where hundreds of lively street stalls pop up. The raucous street market is crammed with independent stalls of late night fortune tellers to hawking colorful accessories and trinkets of all kinds. Do not forget to save room for food at dai pai dongs, the traditional open-air restaurants, for some classic wok-and-toss dishes.
