When Joshua Blackmer left the US Army in 2010, the fitness industry seemed like the best way make use of the qualifications he’d gained in the civilian world. “I had a strong background in physical education from the Army and sport from school, so it was a logical step.”

Today, working as a personal trainer, Joshua thrives on working with that same team spirit and comradery. “The Spa team is amazing and the Spa in general is a great place to work.”

However, when he is away from work, Joshua still uses fitness to unwind. “I have a love/hate relationship with running and ruck running. This is where you put on a heavy pack and run. I use around 20 to 25 kilograms (44-55 pounds). My longest run has been 26 kilometres (16 miles) with this weight.”

And when he isn’t being a personal trainer, Joshua is also known to be a bit of a hero. “I once pulled two men out of an overturned burning truck before it exploded with 15,800 kilograms (35,000 pounds) of chemicals, unbeknownst to me until after it exploded when we were only about 250 metres (820 feet) away!”
