As a New York woman of high standards and discipline, it is a surprise to learn that Shoshana Weinberg spent her early twenties backpacking through remote villages in Asia. Her travels took her through Thailand, China, Laos and Cambodia, and it was on this tour that she realised a one-time childhood hobby – making herb poultices – would shape her future.
Living in Asia, Weinberg had the opportunity to learn about herbal medicine among village tribes. Upon returning to her native land, this experience led her to forge a path toward achieving three things: “I wanted to learn to heal myself, learn to live off the land and learn to help others.”
Weinberg’s interest in ayurveda had become deep-rooted, and she moved to an organic farm to learn about wholesome and natural food growth and sustainable living and to study integral yoga. Using her ayurvedic practices, she moved from helping herself to helping others, and in 2001, joined company with PRATIMA Spa in New York, where she honed her skills in holistic therapies and business acumen in the growth and rebranding of this urban spa.
She then moved to Orient Express Hotels, helping to open their spa at the Maroma Resort on the Mexican Riviera, and was eventually brought into the company’s head office as director of spa development. From 2006 through 2008, Weinberg travelled the globe learning trends, creating trends and opening new spas. In 2008, Weinberg took a break from the corporate environment and launched Shree Spa, a company that would enable her to open new spas and assist smaller businesses that needed ad hoc management and marketing expertise.
At heart, Weinberg is a people person. Her ultimate pleasure in life is to watch her fellow kin radiate contentment, and there is no better place to witness this than in a spa environment. Thus, in December 2010, she joined Four Seasons as Spa Director at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. Encompassing a vast space at just over 22,000 square feet (2,042 square metres), the Spa houses 17 treatment rooms as well as spacious private relaxation areas for both men and women to enjoy separately.
The Spa offers treatments and therapies by Biologique Recherche, The Organic Pharmacy and Ling New York since Weinberg redeveloped the menu in 2012. It's sharp, refreshing, enticing, navigable, exceptionally indulgent and moreover, it is results-oriented. The Spa itself also has a focus on hydrotherapy, which is the perfect environment for a woman who is making waves.
