Announced via a virtual ceremony on May 6, 2021, this year’s edition of Asia’s 50 Best Bars once again places Bar Trigona at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur on the global stage. Ranked at #12 on the elite list, the trendsetting bar is widely known for its commitment to creative sustainability, strong partnerships with Malaysian farmers, and a growing range of eco-friendly initiatives.
Led by Head Bartender Ashish Sharma, Bar Trigona has previously been recognised among the World’s 50 Best Bars, along with being named #14 Best Bar in Asia and Best Bar in Malaysia for two years in a row.

From Garden to Goblet
Bar Trigona’s ever-updating cocktail list focuses on the use of seasonal Malaysian fruits, herbs and spices, sourced straight from local farms. Some playful touches even come from the Hotel’s own kitchen garden - from delicate basil flowers to fragrant sprigs of mint. Applying a ‘‘root to shoot’’ approach, Ashish and his team work hard to utilise every single part of a flower or fruit through its life cycle, effectively minimising waste and making way for original flavour combinations.
Centuries-old native ingredients such as mangoes, figs and turmeric are reimagined into creative new concoctions, successfully upturning the idea of “luxury” as always being foreign and exotic. The bar’s latest herb-inspired menu features signature drinks such as The First, a blend of Japanese gin, green chilli and pegaga kombucha, and Black & Gold, layered with scotch, pandan foam and prosecco.
A Honeypot of Flavour
From Bar Trigona’s inception, the eponymous trigona honeybee has been an integral part of the journey, serving as inspiration for the bar’s name and glittering hive-style interiors. The sweet and sour honey produced by these stingless bees infuses trademark cocktails with an inimitable flavour.
Proceeds from selected cocktails are channelled towards boosting local bee populations and promoting sustainable bee-keeping practices. With the bar’s ‘‘Adopt a Hive’’ venture, patrons can fund the caretaking of a hive at Dino’s Kelulut Organic Farm in Negeri Sembilan for an entire year, along with receiving five jars of sought-after Trigona honey.
Join the Tree-Volution
Renewing its commitment to sustainability, Bar Trigona recently launched a novel reforestation project, aimed at planting fruit trees around local farms. Proceeds from selected cocktails fund seed collection, planting and protection of the fledgling forest. Motivated by the belief that small actions have a big impact, the Bar Trigona team aims to plant 500 trees a year by 2022.
