As a marathon runner, Lindley Thomen is not shy of putting in the hard work to get to where he wants to go. Fitness forms a foundation for his life balance. "I have always been into sports; it provides a release - a chance for the mind to re-set. At school, I represented Mauritius in long jump and was active in many other areas of athletics. It's true that I enjoy the physical element of sport, but what most attracted me to it was the chance to be part of a team, having that sense of facing new challenges together and motivating each other to achieve your best." And this is precisely why Lindley was tempted into the world of hospitality.

"I love that in hospitality you have the opportunity to do something new every day," says the man who has built his career through the food and beverage division, overseeing multiple restaurant operations  and bustling kitchens. "Not only are you always meeting new people, but there's no limit to how creative you can be, and when you are fortunate enough to work with people who are so passionate for what they do, there's a constant flow of ideas. It's very inspiring."

As a native of Mauritius, the hospitality industry was very well known to Lindley. Home to a number of luxury resorts, Lindley has almost 30 years of experience in his trade, working across both local and international brands such as Attitude Group and Constance Hotels and Resorts. Hospitality is an industry that is not only so key to the destination, but one in which there is a lot of pride. "Mauritius is a beautiful place. Sometimes when your every day is so beautiful, it can be hard not to take this for granted. However, it's not just the landscape and tropical climate that makes the island so appealing as a tourist destination, it is the spirit people have. There's a warmth and welcome to Mauritius, a genuine care that people have chosen to visit the island and it is something that has struck me much more, the more I have travelled."

And travel is what Lindley and his family do, at every available chance. Along with his wife, Christiane, and daughter, Delphine, he has travelled to many different countries, exploring diverse landscapes and cultures. Each time, Lindley returns to Mauritius ready for the next step, which has led to him already holding 10 years of experience as general manager across three resorts on the island.

Now, as he begins his journey with Four Seasons, what does he seek to achieve? "I want to be seen as a mentor. I have gained so much experience throughout my career and learned so much from it. There have been many people along the way who have guided me, who helped shape my journey. So, now it is time for me to give back and to offer a helping hand to our staff and guests alike."
