Tribeca: The Triangle Below Canal Street
What was once a quiet, residential neighbourhood marked by its historic, loft-lined streets and cast-iron buildings, is now becoming one of the trendiest and most sought-after NYC districts. Our vibrant Tribeca (the TRIangle BEow CAnal Street) neighbourhood is filled with a mix of eclectic eateries, bespoke cocktail lounges, designer boutiques, and a family-friendly atmosphere that intrigues travellers of all ages.
Easily defined as a foodie paradise, Tribeca serves as host to some of the most famous restaurants including neighbourhood brasserie The Odeon (of Saturday Night Live fame), Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Grill and famed family brunch staple Bubby’s. There’s nothing not to like, as a simple stroll down the cobble-stoned streets also leads to a variety of celebrity chef outposts ranging from Marc Forgione to Nobu, Mr. Chow, Locanda Verde and Brushstroke. Fancy a post-meal nightcap? Guests will find comfort at The Bennett, Tiny’s, Brandy Library and Ward III, where craft cocktails flow throughout the evening.
For the style savvy, the Tribeca area is becoming home to some of the chicest boutiques with notable names including Otte, Calypso and Steven Alan. With Tribeca’s growing family community, also comes a variety of children’s stores – Babesta, Torly and Bit’z Kids – perfect for a shopping trip after a family picnic at Washington Market Park.
What has really been an integral part of the Tribeca neighbourhood has seen the entrance of the Tribeca Film Festival, pioneered by Robert De Niro. The film festival was founded to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking centre, as well as a way to bring vitality and artistic outlets back to Lower Manhattan. Each Spring, attendees of the local festival are able to see a line-up of original independent films, documentaries, narrative features, shorts and family-friendly films. The festival also features panel discussions with entertainment personalities and a variety of musical showcases. This VIP festival is not to be missed while in Manhattan.
