Originally from the “Garden City” of Singapore, Sherona Shng currently serves as General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen.
Shng’s first stint into hospitality was a serendipitous encounter that now, after two decades, has proven to be her career destiny. With a background in broadcasting, she began her journey at MediaCorp, Singapore’s commercial broadcasting conglomerate, before moving to Hong Kong as an assistant communications manager for a luxury hotel chain. “I wanted to get out of the cycle of broadcasting hours and it was a chance encounter when I saw the opening for the position. I was young, in a new city and even though I had no background in hospitality, I also had absolutely no fear. It just happened the way it was meant to.”
A veteran PR practitioner, Shng has taken on corporate brand management and senior hotel management roles with luxury hotel companies that not only challenged, but also built her tenacity and grit, as well as developed her nurturing style of management in an often demanding service industry. “We are in the business of people and Four Seasons properties all over the world has been able to consistently deliver its hallmark service and hospitality only through its team of dedicated people. We are only as strong as the team around us and we need that strength to bring us forward together,” she says.
From stellar guest experience execution to world-class recognition for the restaurants under her watch, her credentials go across the board into multiple industries, locations and disciplines, demonstrating her diversity of thought and adaptability.
Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, Shng brings with her a wealth of knowledge, in-depth experience and a compassion and dedication to her employees’ success, “Each staff member is adept to do their own job. They do not need you to do it for them. But a good leader is somebody who can inspire others to become better, and to bring out the best potential in them. It all starts from the heart.”
Shng’s composed look belies the avid dancer and movie buff that she is. Aside from taking time to explore the city that she lives in, during her downtime, she is either spending it at lyrical dance classes, winding down with a good movie or enjoying a run on the treadmill.
