Los Angeles, Westlake Village, U.S.A.

Coin & Candor, the California brasserie located inside Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, will spread support and awareness for the Upside of Downs, a Somis, California-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing differently abled individuals with meaningful agriculture work and opportunity to grow and learn.

“We are thrilled to partner the Upside of Downs,” explains Chef Jesus Medina of Coin & Candor.  “We know that each of us is given a unique gift to discover a sense of purpose and belonging. This organization is doing remarkable work by creating an inclusive environment for different-abled farmers to thrive!”

During the months of November and December 2022, one dollar of Chef Jesus Medina’s "real nice rice dish" (USD 18) sold will be donated to the Upside of Downs. Coin & Candor’s really nice rice is made with forbidden rice, tomato sofrito, romesco and cured egg yolk. The egg yolk gives the featured dish a subtle creamy texture perfect for a hearty fall dish to be shared.

About the Upside of Downs

Since 1998, the Upside of Downs non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization has been working, growing, gathering, and sharing the upside of life, much like farmers do when they share the bounty from their bit of earth. Headquartered in Somis, California on the 6-acre Mulberry Lane Farm, the Upside of Downs is dedicated to differently abled farmers.  On the farm, day program volunteers participate in agricultural hands-on, hearts-in experiential learning.  They learn new skills, old-fashioned methods, and interact in meaningful, productive ways with each other and with nature.  There is no participation fee, and each special farmer is accompanied by his/her caregiver, parent, or job coach.
