Festive guests at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo are in for a Christmas Day delight with the opening of a beautiful and pristine new grass tennis court at the property on December 25, 2011. The new grass court utilises Tifdwarf Bermuda grass and is the first true grass regulation tennis court at any Four Seasons property worldwide.

“We are excited to bring a little bit of Wimbledon to Costa Rica with the debut of our grass tennis court on Christmas Day,” says Pascal Forotti, general manager, Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica. “With a total of five outdoor courts, excellent instruction and programs and a year round perfect climate for tennis, Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica is a fantastic and fun place to play this great game.”

Grass tennis courts have a fascinating history, having made their debut more than 100 years ago in England. Today, only about one percent of all tennis is played on grass worldwide but the surface is still beloved by many for its beauty and history and as a softer surface that is fast, exciting and easier on the body. The Wimbledon Championships are still played on grass courts every year at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in Wimbledon, England.

Private lessons and doubles clinics as well as regular guest play will be available on the new grass tennis court at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica. In addition to the new grass tennis court, the tennis facility at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica features four outdoor Har-Tru tennis courts providing the comfort and playing characteristics of clay. The tennis program, managed by Peter Burwash International, offers private lessons, clinics and player match-ups. The Pro Shop also offers complimentary racquets and shoes, as well as racquet restringing and ball machine services.
