Sometimes life leads you down an unexpected path. For Indian-born Anu Mohan, following this path – guided by his curiosity – has led to a career of passion, dedication and reward.

As a Bachelor of Arts graduate, the Director of Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya enrolled on an Ayurveda course following a friend’s recommendation. It was an experience that saw him “fall into the beauty of wellness,” forging a career path paved with joy, accolades from others, and deep personal satisfaction.

Being awakened to the world of wellness through Ayurveda, Anu decided to dive deeper, achieving prestigious internationally recognised CIDESCO and CIBTAC qualifications in Aesthetics and Beauty Therapy. “Ayurveda, yoga, wellness, body and beauty therapies - I’ve learned that they all fall under the same umbrella,” says the married father of two.  “It’s an advantage to know about multiple disciplines and how they inform each other.”

With Ayurveda, aesthetics and beauty therapy training under his belt, Anu started teaching anatomy and physiology related to skin and beauty. While working in his first hotel spa, he expanded his knowledge further into the nurturing aspect of high-quality treatments. And even when he progressed to learning about spa management and operations, he still remained hands on, delivering guest services himself while also training his team.

“Coming from a background of working as a therapist myself really helps me to empathise with my team,” he explains. “I do always feel like I share an immediate and beautiful bond with other therapists, which helps with my team building wherever I am.”

Anu is a respected and adept leader, bringing his discerning eye for detail to all aspects of spa management, whether that be finessing the wellness atmosphere, creating standard operating procedures, selecting product lines or designing spa menus and wellness programs.

At Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya, he has noticed that guests are very interested in wellness experiences and have high expectations. “Guests here are also interested in diverse wellness activities and classes,” he adds. “So I aim, along with my team, to offer a variety of options to complement their experience and encourage their loyalty.”

But Anu’s overall vision is broader and more ambitious still. With the Hotel’s Spa & Wellness Centre named as Kuwait’s first Forbes Five-Star Spa in 2023, he is now on a mission to elevate it further still. “It is my aim to make The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait stand out among all others right across the Middle East. I’m focusing on various initiatives, still in their early stages, to enhance guest experiences, while also encouraging our excellent team to work to fulfil their potential.”

Above all, Anu particularly enjoys connecting – and spending time – with his team. “I draw on my own experiences as a therapist to now use my position to make both the guest and employee experience better,” he explains. “While I have received various awards over the years, it’s my employee satisfaction survey scores that make me most proud and happy.”

In his spare time, the avid sportsman likes to play badminton and cricket, and also either works out at the gym or practises yoga on a daily basis to maintain his own physical and mental wellbeing. “My life is full, and I am blessed with a beautiful family,” he concludes with a smile. “But I am looking forward to learning much more while here in Kuwait, and to laying exciting new foundations for my own future career and wellness paths too.”
