We're with the Band: Jeff Swope

Four Seasons Hotel Nashville spotlights the very best of the city’s live music scene
Nashville, USA

Four Seasons Hotel Nashville is but a moment’s walk from Music City’s live entertainment district that helps draw millions of visitors to the city each year.  The property is also within easy reach of larger scale venues such as The Nissan Stadium, Ascend Ampitheater and the Ryman Auditorium. Behind the more obvious attractions, however, there exists an eclectic and largely undiscovered music scene out there for visitors to uncover.

The Hotel’s team don’t just provide guests with guidance on where to hear good music in the city - they also write and perform themselves.  And in this edition of “We’re With The Band” we spotlight Jeff Swope, the Hotel’s Assistant Laundry and Valet Manager.

More often found in the back of house, taking care of the Hotel’s demanding laundry department since the Hotel’s opening in November 2022, Jeff has played pop-up performances for visiting media guests and VIP groups in the front of house too.  These often-impromptu shows have quickly become the talk of the property among guests and residents, proving that the Hotel’s team are just as passionate about music as they are in providing personalized luxury experiences for those staying at Four Seasons Hotel Nashville.

The Artist

As a third-generation singer-songwriter with Cumberland Valley roots that go deep into traditional Honky-Tonk country music, Jeff Swope isn't looking to change anything about the genre. His original songs evoke classic sounds reminiscent of Keith Whitley, Vince Gill, Roger Miller and others, while still striking a note with younger generations seeking fresh vibes and carefree energy. His shows are engaging, full of humour and personal stories that further connect you to the artist and showcase a rare talent capable of carrying a sacred torch into bold new territory.

Q. How would you describe the music you play?

“I've always wanted to make an album that would've been popular when I was growing up listening to the radio,” explains Jeff.  “Country music has so many sub-genres now - and even the traditionalists have their 'honky-tonk,' Texas swing, Outlaw Country and so on.  What I do is as close to the 1990s mainstream Country sound, because that's what I grew up listening to and decided I wanted to do. I'm even using the same studio musicians that were on all the records back then."

Q. What was the first musical instrument that you learned to play?

“I started learning the piano at two years old. Later on, I became curious about the guitar, and first picked one up aged 13.  My grandfather got me out of school early one day so he could take me to go and buy me one!  I didn’t really follow any formal training, and I guess you could say that I was self-taught in that respect.”

Q. Who are your musical influences?

Keith Whitley, Vince Gill, Roger Miller, Brad Paisley, Ben Rector, John Mayer and Stevie Wonder.  Click here to experience Jeff’s playlist.

Q. What advice would you give to our guests visiting Nashville and wanting to experience its music scene?

Find a place like City Winery, The Bluebird Cafe, or the Listening Room and listen to the songwriters tell their stories. There's nothing on Earth like country music, and these experiences make it easier to see why. Or branch out and catch a Time Jumpers show at 3rd and Lindsley on a Monday night - you never know who might show up unannounced.

Four Seasons guests find Jeff Swope’s music online here as well as staying in touch with his music events on his social channels on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
