In a celebration of culinary heritage and international diplomacy, Chef Stefano Maffioli Ferrari, Chef de Cuisine at Riviera, was recognized as an "Ambassador of Italian Cuisine in Egypt" during the prestigious gala dinner aboard Italy’s historic naval ship, Amerigo Vespucci, on the shores of Egypt’s second largest city, Alexandria.

"I am honoured to be part of this historic event and receive this recognition," says Chef Ferrari. "Italian cuisine is not just about food; it is a way of life, a cultural expression that brings people together. I am proud to represent this tradition and share its essence with the world."

As part of the celebration, Chef Maffioli-Ferrari was recognized for his outstanding contributions to Italian gastronomy. With a distinguished career spanning renowned Four Seasons kitchens across Europe and the Middle East - including Florence, Milan, and Megève - he honed his craft under the mentorship of Michelin-starred chefs and continues to redefine contemporary Italian cuisine.

The event, Vespucci Meets Egypt, marked the ship’s first visit to Egypt in more than 90 years and served as a platform to honour Italian cuisine as a nominee for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status.  Hosted by Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Culture, the evening highlighted the growing appreciation for authentic Italian gastronomy within Egypt’s dynamic food and beverage landscape. As Cairo continues to establish itself as a hub for world-class dining, the recognition of Chef Maffioli-Ferrari underscores the increasing demand for culinary excellence and the deep cultural exchange between Egypt and Italy.

At the helm of Riviera's kitchen, the acclaimed Italian-coastal restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, Chef Ferrari showcases his mastery of flavours through an exquisite menu that blends time-honoured traditions with modern innovation. His dedication to excellence and passion for authentic Italian flavours reflect the very essence of the La Cucina Italiana initiative, which seeks to preserve Italy’s culinary heritage for future generations.

The Amerigo Vespucci continues its journey across the Mediterranean, but its stop in Alexandria left an enduring mark - celebrating the artistry of Italian cuisine and the individuals who carry its legacy forward.
