Coming straight from his latest tenure in the vibrant city of Beijing, Chef Gao Chunlong arrives at the renowned 8 Chinese restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, wielding an impressive culinary legacy spanning over two decades. Rising from the basics to the esteemed position of Chef de Cuisine, he has honed his skills in some of the most celebrated kitchens, including Michelin-starred restaurant Cai Yi Xuan at Four Seasons Hotel Bejing.

His culinary journey began in his youth, where an early love for cooking led him to attend culinary school in China. Over the years, he has embraced the philosophy that a great chef knows no favourites; instead, they must excel in preparing everything. However, his heart remains close to the flavours of Chinese cuisine. In his words, "A chef pours himself into every dish, no matter how simple or complex."

Chef Gao believes in the art of adapting to local ingredients, a challenge he faces with creativity and enthusiasm in Cairo. His goal is to craft dishes that stay true to Chinese tradition while incorporating flavours that resonate with Egyptian tastes, creating a balance between authenticity and innovation. His past experiences in Beijing have shaped his vision, and he enjoys exploring new culinary heights in his role in Cairo.

Several years ago, Chef Gao first visited Egypt and ever since, he has longed to return. Now, with his children grown up, he has seized the opportunity to make Cairo his home, eagerly anticipating the chance to explore the city’s rich culture.

As he took the reins at 8, Chef Gao reimagined the menu, elevating the dining experience with refined ingredients and fresh techniques. His vision is to introduce a new chapter for the restaurant while staying rooted in the traditions of Chinese cuisine.

Enthusiastically embracing the city of Cairo, Chef Gao immerses himself in its vibrant streets and local sights, anticipating a wealth of new experiences and impressions that will intricately shape and influence his distinctive style of cooking. Outside the kitchen, Chef Gao enjoys fishing and sports, activities that refresh and inspire his creativity.
