Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai has been awarded the Verified Silver Bamboo Badge from the data-backed Tuu Eco Stay Awards, recognising six consecutive months of measured, verified sustainability performance.

The achievement reflects the resort’s commitment to integrating sustainability into daily operations — from ultra-low energy use to pioneering plant-based dining and minimising food waste.

“Sustainability is about making measurable progress every day, holding ourselves accountable, and ensuring that every decision reflects our commitment to both guests and the environment,” explains General Manager Sean Mosher. “Our chef’s garden, for instance, supplies fresh, organic produce straight to our kitchens, cutting food miles and inspiring plant-forward dining.”

Verified results include:

  • Energy efficiency: Average energy use of just 17.9 kWh per square metre, well below luxury resort benchmarks, achieved through smart systems and efficiency upgrades.
  • Plant-based dining: Between 45–54 percent of menu items are plant-based or vegan, inspired by fresh produce from the resort’s chef’s garden.
  • Food waste: Kitchens generate just 0.18 kg of food waste per square metre, thanks to portion control, menu planning, and composting systems.

As part of the independent verification process, Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai submitted six months of operational data across five core areas: Energy, Water, Food, Waste, and Human Resources. All data was reviewed by global accounting and advisory network HLB International and assessed against benchmarks aligned with the GSTC Industry Criteria, UNEP and ILO standards.

Tuu founder Terry Blackburn says the results show how sustainability and guest experience can work hand in hand: “What’s impressive about Four Seasons Chiang Mai is how seamlessly sustainability is built into the guest experience, from the way menus are developed to how operations are managed behind the scenes. Guests can also enjoy eco-friendly cultural immersion activities such as rice planting and natural tie-dye workshops, and other hands-on experiences that connect them with local traditions. It’s a reminder that environmental responsibility can enhance, not interrupt, world-class hospitality.”

Each hotel verified through the Tuu Eco Stay Awards receives a public-facing Eco Profile and is registered on a blockchain-based registry for added transparency. Verified properties also gain access to 30 independently judged Eco Stay Awards across four categories: Environmental Impact, Local Community, Cultural Heritage, and Sustainability Planning.

With more than 20 hotels participating across Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East, the Tuu Eco Stay Awards are fast becoming a new standard for credible, data-driven recognition in hospitality.
