Four Seasons Hotel Chicago Celebrates 35 Years of Service Excellence

On March 10, 1989, the guest list for the grand opening of Four Seasons Hotel Chicago had some unique attendees - two hedgehogs, two guinea pigs, two rabbits, two iguanas, and two great-horned owls - 20 animals in all. As the soiree was a benefit for the Lincoln Park Zoological Society, the elephantine event impressed its 1,000 guests with seven buffets, eight grand pianos, nine bands and two orchestras.

For the past 35 years, the Hotel's team of service professionals has warmly welcomed millions of guests, including famous celebrities and dignitaries from all over the world. The events team, which is led by Catering Director Jamie Breslin, has successfully organized the grandest events and more than 1,000 elegant weddings in its 23,591 square foot (2,191.68 square metre) event space. As a result, the Hotel has gained a reputation as one of the most outstanding hotels in the city.

"Our success over the past 35 years comes down to our incredible people, many of whom have been with us since opening day,” says Stephen Wancha, who is only the fourth General Manager of the property. "Our Hotel has been a training ground - and a success story - for many of our company's esteemed leaders. Our ability to retain and attract top talent is evident when one sees how many of our team members have reached the 10-year, 20-year and even 30-year mark with us."

In 2021, the property underwent its largest renovation yet, led by the renowned design firm Rottet Studio. The renovation was completed in the summer of 2023, with the redesign of the Pool and Spa being the final touch. The design evolution captured the new-fashioned energy of the legacy property, while still maintaining the magnificence of the Hotel's 160 rooms and 185 suites, which continue to be the highest in the city.

Throughout 2024, Four Seasons Hotel Chicago will be celebrating its major milestone with guests and employees including special collaborations with other notable institutions in the city. These city icons include Garrett Popcorn (celebrating 75 years), Howard Brown Health (celebrating 50 years), and the Chicago International Film Festival (celebrating 60 years).

As the heartbeat of the Hotel, Adorn Bar & Restaurant features prominently in the festivities. Led by Executive Chef Richie Farina and 2022 Michelin Guide Sommelier of the Year and General Manager Colin Hofer, Adorn specializes in quality in fun and unfamiliar ways, while taking guests on a whimsical adventure through luxurious products and service.
