Summer Experiences at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, the first and only AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Five-Star Resort on Hawaii Island, launches its immersive programming for the 2024 summer season. From authentic Hawaiian cultural and culinary experiences to extraordinary programming through Only at Hualālai, wellness offerings, new off-site experiences via the beloved Camp Manitou and a variety of recreational pursuits, the Resort is primed with an unparalleled schedule of activities and events all summer long, offering a truly memorable getaway.
Culture
The Resort’s Kaupulehu Cultural Center offers an opportunity to deepen guests’ experience and share Hawaiian culture through a series of programming designed to be fun, immersive and educational. In celebration of the Summer Solstice, the Kane I Ka Wai Ola series explores the stories and traditions of Kane, one of the key figures in Hawaiian mythology, through mo’olelo (storytelling), hula (dance) and hana no’eau (crafting), offering a profound way to connect with Hawaiian heritage and values. For those seeking to learn the ways of stargazing, Chadd ‘Onoshi Paishon, one of five Hawaiians given the PWO ceremony that recognizes him as a master navigator, will lead talk story at the Surf, Sand and Stars dinner buffet at Beach Tree on Saturday evenings. Paishon is a leader and captain of Hawaii Island’s very own double-hulled voyaging canoe, Malii.
Culinary
The Resort’s culinary team, led by Executive Chef Richard Polhemus, offers a multitude of dining options and uniquely Hawaiian culinary experiences, with menus that reflect the bounty of Hawaii’s farms and coasts. Throughout the summer season, guests can enjoy a Polynesian Luau and Show featuring authentic Hawaiian fare, refreshing tropical cocktails, hula, and musical performances at the Hoku Amphitheater. Additional culinary experiences exclusive to the summer season span Sushi and Robata by ‘Ulu, offering a menu of fresh, Hawaiian seafood hand-crafted by the Resort’s sushi experts, among the return of Mi Casa Taqueria, featuring a collection of savoury starters, fresh ceviche, and an innovative selection of gourmet tacos blending ingredients from the Hawaiian Islands with the flavours of Mexico.
The Resort recently unveiled Miller & Lux at Hualalai, a Hawaiian iteration of the awarded Chef Tyler Florence’s San Francisco-based steakhouse. A variety of new programming and seasonal specials await this summer season, including Caviar & Champagne Tastings on Thursday evenings, Fried Chicken Sundays, and Private Mixology or Wine Tasting/Pairing Classes with Miller & Lux’s expert mixologist. Further, Chef Tyler Florence will personally host a cookbook launch party for his new cookbook American Grill on July 26, 2024, offering a sunset reception and family-style live-fire dinner.
Wellness
To further emphasize a fitness-focused experience, celebrity trainer and nutrition guru Harley Pasternak returns to Hualalai in August 2024 to host a series of fitness and nutrition events. Pasternak will distill the information in his best-selling books, including Body Reset Diet, with specialized programming, group fitness classes and private consultations. Looking to boost relaxation? Those pursuing an intentional experience will enjoy the magic of Sunset Yoga on the Full Moon, creating an opportunity to manifest personal intentions and embrace the transformative energy of the celestial alignment.
Camp Manitou
A partnership with one of the nation’s foremost summer camps, Camp Manitou, returns for its eighth year July 1 - August 30, 2024. Designed for children ages 9 through 17, the offerings focus on immersive group experiences through cultural, recreational and explorative activities both at the Resort and throughout the Island of Hawaii, with single and multi-day programming. New for Summer 2024 are two off-site experiences – the Volcano National Park Overnight Trip and the Pu’u Wa’Awa’a Forest Reserve and Napu’u Conservation Area Service Project – both with the intention of providing campers a newfound appreciation for the island and its rich history, culture, and natural resources.
During the Volcano National Park camping excursion, campers will explore the southernmost part of the United States on the way to the park and an afternoon hike through Thurston Lava Tube. This is followed by a stay in the cabins at Namakanipaio campground after a picnic dinner overlooking Halemaumau crater at sunset and s’mores by the fire back at the cabins. The next morning, after a campfire breakfast, campers will trek through the Kilauea ‘Iki crater, one of Volcano National Park’s most jaw-dropping loop trails, and stopover in historic Hilo town for lunch, before heading back to the Resort.
For those looking to give back to the Hawaii Island community an impactful way, Camp Manitou has partnered with the Napu’u Conservation Project to take campers on a lunchtime excursion to the top of Pu’u Wa’Awa’a – one of the island’s foremost hikes with splendid sights of the Kona Coast to Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai – to experience the breathtaking views and learn about the native dryland forests of the island. Campers can plant koa trees and contribute to Napu’u’s reforestation efforts in the Pu’u Wa’Awa’a ahupua’a – a section of land that stretches all the way to the coast at Kiholo.
