Four Seasons Resort Langkawi Welcomes Heriberto “Beto” Pena as Director of Spa
Four Seasons Resort Langkawi announces the appointment of Heriberto “Beto” Pena as its new Director of Spa. Beto comes to the vibrant island resort from the tranquil hillsides of Baja California, Mexico, where he played an instrumental role in opening a new luxury wellness resort, prior to which he spent 11 rewarding years with Four Seasons.
Hailing from Costa Rica, Beto’s interest in wellness was first sparked by the extraordinary longevity found in the Nicoya region, his country’s famed “Blue Zone,” leading to a decade-long exploration into holistic health.
“For me, entering the spa and wellness industry was more than just a career choice. It was the start of a transformative journey that has allowed me to discover my authentic self and inspire others to similarly enrich their lives,” he says.
Helmed by his vision of holistic wellness, The Geo Spa at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is set to unveil a slew of new offerings in the coming months. Travellers can look forward to bespoke retreats, personalized programs, immersive classes and special events with visiting masters. Beto and his team are excited to share their passion and knowledge, from offering guests their first taste of wellbeing to guiding them towards new practices or deeper expertise.
Alongside elements such as vibrational healing, herbalism, longevity therapy and sleep optimization, Beto’s approach draws generously on the Resort’s breathtaking natural surrounds. “Despite ever-evolving trends, the essence of a healthy life always leads back to nature,” he explains. “Here in Langkawi, we’re fortunate to be in a profoundly beautiful and powerful setting. Ancient elemental energies are all around us, creating exactly the right conditions to rebalance, renew and cultivate inner peace.”
Beto started his career as a bright-eyed 18-year-old on the pura vida shores of Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. Ascending the ladder from Yoga Instructor to Wellness Ambassador, he ultimately took charge of the wellbeing team and went on to elevate the spa by introducing a number of Ayurvedic experiences. His celebrated nine-year tenure included several trips to healing centres in Thailand, India and Indonesia, where he delved into traditional knowledge systems and obtained qualifications in yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, Thai massage, sound therapy, and energy healing.
Next came the two Four Seasons islands in Seychelles where, as Spa Assistant Manager, Beto revamped the entire menu and developed groundbreaking initiatives, including a visiting practitioner program and a suite of wellbeing workshops, before heading to Mexico. Now, his return to Four Seasons - the company where his professional odyssey began - fills him with gratitude. “Finding myself in Asia, the birthplace of my expertise, is the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream,” he shares.
As a longtime yoga practitioner, Beto finds immense joy in helping people discover a healthier, happier way of life. Empowerment is at the heart of his practice: “The goal is for guests to be able to continue their wellbeing journey even after they leave our Resort.”
Enriching rituals such as aromatherapy, smudging and digital detox are a cherished part of Beto’s own routine, bringing clarity and positive energy to his everyday life. He also enjoys spending time by the ocean and experimenting with creative vegetarian recipes.
